Chinese brands don’t always copy, and Doogee is out to prove a point. Doogee is a small Chinese manufacturer that many won’t be aware off, and it’s due to the fact that the brand hasn’t made it to international markets yet. After making the Mi Mix 2 rip off in the form of the its flagship Doogee Mix, the OEM has come up with a complete new take on building a smartphone with a truly bezel-less design.
The major gripe in building a tri-bezel less smartphone lie in the process of allocating space for the sensors, earpiece and selfie shooter in the front façade of the device. Apple came out with their own innovative take by using a notch in their iPhone X. While that notch is functionally essential, it looks intrusive and often ugly to a large section of consumers. Previously, Xiaomi had tried using a Piezoelectric earpiece instead of the standard one to solve the space management issue, but it didn’t help much as the earpiece wasn’t audible in noisy environments.
Now, here’s where Doogee comes in; their new innovative design is based on the concept of traditional slide-able smartphones. It looks like Doogee has taken a leaf out of BlackBerry’s book. The video renders shared by the Chinese firm show a tri-bezel less smartphone with just the display on top. To make a call or click selfies, you simply need to slide up the smartphone. Apparently, the sensors and earpiece are hidden behind the main display. The design, however, has its set of flaws. The slide-able form factor increases the width of the smartphone by a fair amount. Moreover, it would hinder the functionality of something like Proximity Wake which uses the sensor for waking up your device.
Nonetheless, it would be interesting to see whether Doogee succeeds to pull off a smartphone with this design. And considering Doogee high price to performance ratio, we can expect this smartphone to priced pretty aggressively.
