My everyday commute on the streets is mostly characterized by cussing other drivers who often fail/forget to use their turn signal indicator. I have barely missed rear-ending such drivers, and as a thumb rule I always slow down while nearing cross junctions. While some of us may not be in the habit of using the turn signals, it is quite possible that many forget.
Yes, it is indeed a minuscule task, but the lack of the same apparently causes 2 million accidents in the US alone. Since driving usually involves a handful of micro-tasks, it is possible that the driver occasionally forgets to turn on the indicators. Not anymore, a new Kickstarter project is here to solve this problem once and forever.
The lifesaving device is called Alrowwy, and it is an AI-powered accessory that uses your smartphone via Bluetooth to predict your driving route. Once it predicts your driving routes, the turn indicators will automatically switch on while taking a turn. The Alrrowwy can be installed on any vehicle and be it four-wheeler or a two-wheeler. The best use case, however, is when an Ambulance or any other rescue vehicle driver can focus on driving while the Airrowwy will do the rest for them.
Needless to say, the Alrowwy works in tandem with a companion app that is available for both Android and iOS. What if you don’t use the navigation on the Phone? Well, the makers of Alrowwy seem to have thought about this as well. The device makes use of direction sensors in your smartphone and automatically turns on the turn signals accordingly.
The Alrowwy project is currently live on Kickstarter and the pledges start from €68. The estimated shipping dates are pegged at the first quarter of 2018. It would be interesting to see how well Alrowwy works in practice if it works as promised we may see automobile manufacturers adopting it.
