BSNL has announced that it is offering access to 44 million WiFi hotspots globally. The WiFI hotspots will be available across 100 countries and can be accessed with via the My BSNL app that is available for both Android and iOS. The service is called WiFi plus and currently, the monthly tariff is fixed at Rs 501. As part of this plan, WiFi+ users will get access to unlimited internet access with a validity of 30-days.
BSNL goes on to explain that the WiFI+ users will not require to save or remember multiple passwords. All they need to do is register once on the app and then once they are in the vicinity of the WiFi it gets connected automatically. BSNL had earlier introduced a similar service called International WiFi and it started at a much higher Rs 999/month and went all the way up to Rs 1999. That being said the BSNL WiFi+ service cannot be accessed within India.
Additionally, BSNL is asking users to refer to Hotspot Finder to get all the information about the hotspot availability in any given country. The internet speed will not be guaranteed and this will vary from hotspot to hotspot. If the service is as good as touted, then the WiFI+ might very well shape up as an alternative to the expensive international roaming data plans.
This is how you need to activate the WiFI+. Register here and once done activate the plan by using My BSNL App on the mobile device. Please make sure that the plan is activated before you leave the country. The validity of the plan begins from the date of activation. The state-owned telecom company is apparently one of the first companies to offer such services worldwide.
