A day before its expiry, Reliance Jio has announced that it is extending the Prime membership for existing members by a year. To avail the offer, Prime subscribers will have to launch the MyJio app on their phone, click the extension button, and that’s it. The offer is yet to go live, perhaps by tomorrow evening or first week of April. Reliance says this is a limited period offer but if history is any indication, it probably is not.
New customers and current ones which are not a part of the Prime subscription will still have to pay Rs 99 if they intend to ever. One of the key highlights of being a Prime subscriber is certainly the tempting offers (for monthly recharges) which are usually not available for non-prime users. In addition to that, it offers access to the telecom operator’s entertainment suite of services including JioMusic, JioTV, JioCinema, and a couple more. For free, of course.
Reliance Jio says it’s serving over 175 million Prime customers as of now. The telecom company is also revealed that it is merging its music streaming platform with Saavn a few days before. The combined entity is supposedly valued at $1 billion. While the companies didn’t reveal any specific details about the forthcoming platform, Reliance, in a press release, said it will be focusing on “global reach, cross-border original content, an independent artist marketplace, consolidated data and one of the largest mobile advertising mediums.”
And Reliance promises even better deals and offers for Jio Prime members:
With the ongoing augmentation of content offerings and consumer engagement programs, Jio is gearing up to bring new and superior experiences with the PRIME program and will ensure that PRIME members get substantially better benefits than the counterparts in the industry.
In short, Jio is being relentless in their customer acquisition and retention programs.
Update: The offer is now live. To enable it, you can simply head over to the MyJio app and click the “Get Now” red button on the top.
