Mobiistar might be a relatively new player in the Indian smartphone market, but the company enjoys a formidable reputation in its home market of Vietnam. And it is looking to make its presence felt in India with some well designed, decently specced designs, a killer price and above all, selfie muscle. The XQ Dual delivers dual front-facing cameras – one 13.0-megapixel and one 8.0-megapixel – at a surprisingly affordable Rs 7,999. Of course, you could just grab the phone and swing into selfie mode (there is enough hardware magic to deliver great results, including a beauty mode and a front-facing flash for those low light moments), but a little patience will see your selfies come out even better and more easily. So if you really want to leverage the selfie power of the Mobiistar XQ Dual, we suggest you try out the following six tips:
Selfie Taking Tips
Tip 1: Set up the cameras for single or group selfies
See that icon next to the shutter button on the camera app when you move to selfie mode? It allows you to switch from a selfie of a single person to that of a group – in the latter case, the camera will try to identify multiple faces. Handy!
Tip 2: Go ahead, try those filters
The second icon from left on top of the camera app (when held in portrait mode), is an icon that seems made up of a number of circles. Tapping on it gives you access to nine filters that will make your selfies look very different indeed. There are some interesting options including mono, sepia, negative and a very artistic “sketch.” Go ahead and get your selfies to stand out.
Tip 3: Get that grid for best results
The best photographers always use a grid on the viewfinder, comprising nine rectangles, enabling them to implement the famous “rule of thirds,” by placing the subject on one of the intersecting lines that form the corners of in the rectangle formed in the middle of the viewfinder. This ensures that the subject, as well as the backdrop, are well represented, and you do not end up with oddly shaped subjects bang in the middle of the shot. Well, the XQ Dual allows you to place a grid on the selfie viewfinder. Just tap the three dots on the top right corner of the camera app (when holding the phone in portrait mode, and in the settings, choose “grid.”
Tip 4: Get the best of multiple shots – HDR
Tapping the settings button also gives you access to HDR (high dynamic range) mode. This is a feature that is more frequently seen in rear cameras of most phones, but you get it on the selfie cameras of the XQ Dual. Activate it, and the device will take multiple shots and then take the best from each to give you the best possible selfie. It is a great option when you are shooting in low light conditions and do not want to use the flash.
Tip 5: Mess around with White Balance and ISO
Yes, you read that right. For most people, white balance and ISO are something that comes under the Pro mode of the rear camera. But in the XQ Dual, you can access these options from the settings menu, and can even tweak them to make sure you selfie comes out just right, or well, even experiment with different settings to go beyond the routine “beauty” tweaks that most people do – mind you, those are available here as well, if you do not want to miss out on the fun.
Tip 6: Control picture size and quality
You can control the size and quality of your selfies right from the settings. Choose Picture Size, and you can opt for your selfie to be 13, 12, 8, 5,4, 3 or 2 megapixels in size, giving you greater control over the amount of storage used by them. You can also opt for low, standard or high-quality selfies. Now, if that isn’t selfie control, what is!`
