With the FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia slated to begin from tomorrow, the 14th of June, football fans in India would surely want to stream the tournament live on their smartphones (if you want to know how to, you can check out our guide), and to help you stream without any interruptions, BSNL is offering a new Special Tariff Voucher (STV) worth Rs. 149 which entitles users for 4GB of data per day from June 14th to July 15th 2018 which is the entire tenure of the FIFA World Cup.
This move can be deduced as a strategy to stay relevant against network providers like Jio and Airtel who offer data packs for extremely competitive prices along with free voice calls and SMS messages as well.
The special offer is only for prepaid customers and cannot be availed by postpaid users. Also, the STV does not include voice calls or SMS messages meaning users will have to make separate recharges for these benefits. Another caveat is that this plan will be available all over India except for subscribers in Mumbai and Delhi, which are two of the most popular cities in India. The STV can be obtained by recharging your BSNL number from the company’s online portal.
Just yesterday, we covered Reliance Jio’s latest offer, providing 1.5GB additional data per day to all its customers, and this move from BSNL seems to be to tackle the hefty competition offered by the network giant which has lured a ton of subscribers, thanks to its cost-effective plans. The move from Jio was itself another strategy against arch-rivals Airtel who had introduced a data plan to provide 1GB additional data per day for select subscribers at a nominal fee.
Network providers are fighting it out like cats and dogs to stay up in the competition and at the end of day, it’s we, the end consumers, who are benefiting out of it as we are getting lucrative deals from these network providers who once used to loot us mercilessly.
