Blackberry was one of the most sought-after brands a few years back when QWERTY keypads were the new fad. Blackberry phones were meant for people who wanted to get work done on the go, and of course, the Blackberry messenger popularized it even more. However, due to Android’s sudden surge and dominance, Blackberry lost its spot. After a few years of hiatus, they did return to the market with an Android-powered smartphone, the Blackberry Priv, and from then on, they’ve released two iterations of their flagship ‘Key’ series, the Blackberry Key one as well as the recently released Key 2, both of which sport a full-fledged QWERTY keypad on the front and is aimed towards business oriented users with a major focus on battery life as well. While both the Key one as well as Key 2 were smartphones for a particular niche only, Blackberry seems to be working on a smartphone that seems to be more modern and comes with all the bells and whistles of a 2018 smartphone.
A recent tweet by reputed tipster Evan Blass aka @evleaks claims that a Blackberry smartphone by the moniker of ‘ghost’ is expected to be manufactured by Optiemus Infracom, the sole manufacturer and distributor of Blackberry devices in India. Blass also claims that the smartphone will sport a huge 4000mAh battery which is a rare sight in flagship smartphones, the Huawei P20 Pro being the only other smartphone to achieve this feat.
Blackberry’s own flagship currently, the Blackberry Key 2 sports a 3500mAh battery. Some reports also suggest that this smartphone might be the upgraded version of the Key 2 exclusive to the Indian market. The ‘ghost’ smartphone is also tipped to sport dual rear cameras with low light enhancements and optical zoom, Blass adds.
While we aren’t aware of the rest of the specifications of the device, we can expect Blackberry to launch the smartphone sometime soon, probably during this month itself. Are you looking forward to purchasing a Blackberry smartphone? Let us know your thoughts.
