Oppo’s smartphones in India have always had a major focus on providing great selfies while keeping the rest of the hardware sub-par given the price they’re sold at. Even the Chinese market, where Oppo enjoys majority sales, did not see a flagship smartphone from Oppo for good four years plus. Of course, there were the ‘R’ series of smartphones with premium specifications, but none of them offered something ground breaking. Well, to address that, Oppo has finally launched a new flagship smartphone under its ‘Find’ series, and this time, it’s not just a selfie expert, but brings much more to the table in the form of an almost bezel-less design, slide out cameras, and a curved display, that too without a notch, and top of the line specifications. The Oppo Find X, which was unveiled in an event held in Paris last month, has finally made its way to the Indian shores today.
The key highlight of the Oppo Find X has to be its design. While Oppo has opted to go with a slide out mechanism for the cameras, only time will tell how well this design holds up in terms of long-term usage, as mechanical parts generally tend to wear out gradually. On the front, we have a 6.42-inch curved AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 which is a Full HD+ panel with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a claimed screen to body ratio of 93.8%, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Oppo is calling this display a ‘Panoramic Arc Screen’.
As stated earlier, the cameras on the Find X have a slide out design with the primary dual camera setup having a 16MP primary lens with an f/2.0 aperture and 1.22 microns pixel size and support for OIS as well as PDAF. The secondary sensor is a 20MP unit used for depth sensing. On the front, there’s a 25MP camera sensor with the same f/2.0 aperture. Both rear and front-facing cameras come with support for some AI functionality like scene detection or beautification. Another thing to note, is that the Find X also sports 3D face scanning technology, similar to the one found on the iPhone X, which uses a dot projector to map the face of the user. These sensors as well are hidden in the slide-out mechanism along with the front-facing camera.
Under the hood, the Oppo Find X is powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 mobile platform coupled with the Adreno 630 GPU along with 8GB of RAM and whopping 256GB of internal storage. The software is based on Android Oreo and runs on Oppo’s custom skin, Color OS 5.1. To power all this, there is a 3730mAh battery along with support for Oppo’s VOOC charging technology, similar to OnePlus’ Dash Charge technology. The Oppo Find X will also support the Android P beta program, which was announced in the Google I/O this year.
The Oppo Find X will be sold in two color options – Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue, at a price of Rs. 59,990 in the Indian market and will be sold exclusively online on Flipkart and in offline stores as well, starting August 3rd. You can also pre-order the Find X on Flipkart starting 25 July, which will fetch you a Flipkart gift voucher worth Rs. 3000. Oppo has also announced the Find X in the Automobili Lamborghini Edition which will come with the same hardware, but will sport 512GB of internal storage instead of the 256GB on the standard variant, and comes with Oppo’s Super VOOC technology whcih can charge the phone completely in about 35 minutes.
