Reliance Jio has announced today that the telecom provider has crossed over 200 million users since the official commencement of its services 21 months back. The growth in subscriber base stands at a staggering 215.3 million with data consumption at a 642 crore GB just in the previous quarter, which is a huge number showing how Jio has led the 4G revolution in India from the front. According to Jio, its users consume 10.6GB of data per month on an average while the total duration of voice calls placed through the network stands at 44,871 crore minutes.
Commenting on the results, Shri Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries Limited said “Jio continues on its path to drive digital revolution in India. We doubled our customer base and most user metrics in the last 12 months. 215 million customers within 22 months of start is a record that no technology company has been able to achieve anywhere in the world. Jio has built an ecosystem for digital services and its affordable and simplified pricing strategy offers every Indian a chance to experience the “power of data”. FTTH and Enterprise services with strong fiber backbone across the country would further establish Jio’s leadership as a digital services provider.”
Jio claims itself to be the world’s largest mobile data network as well as the largest VoLTE network. With JioGigaFiber and other FTTH services to commence from August 15, this number is only set to grow further. Jio has connected millions of Indians to the internet including residents of rural areas where internet access was extremely scarce, thanks to overpriced data plans by other network providers. Jio aims to connect every device at our homes to the internet, and in the process, is making sure that India keeps moving forward in terms of IoT and automation, and that every user has access to the internet be it for education, e-commerce, entertainment, or to stay connected with friends and family.
