Swiggy, one of India’s largest food delivery platforms, has announced a new paid service named “Swiggy Super” which entitles members to free delivery throughout the day from all serviceable restaurants nearby along with surge charges waived off during high-demand situations. Along with this, an additional perk of having a dedicated customer support team will be provided to members of Swiggy Super. The service will initially be made available as a monthly or a three-month plan starting at Rs. 99-149 depending on your location. The pricing for the three-month plan has not been revealed yet.
The catch here, is that to be entitled for free delivery, customers need to have a minimum cart value of Rs. 99 despite being a Swiggy Super member which is disappointing. Initially, the service is being rolled out to select customers across seven Indian cities, which will then be expanded gradually in the coming months. Swiggy also plans to add more benefits in the upcoming months like a few exclusive restaurants to Swiggy Super members.
“With a very large restaurant partner network and an industry best delivery time, Swiggy has become an integral part of the food ordering experiences of Indian consumers. Super is the result of understanding some of their biggest pain points when it comes to food delivery and making it more convenient, affordable, and simple,” said Anuj Rathi, VP of Product at Swiggy. “In the coming months, we will continue to bring more value through Super by adding more benefits and growing the existing offerings on this service,” he added.
Swiggy’s initiative seems to be aiming at rival food delivery services like Zomato which already feature paid membership options like ‘Zomato Treats’ which entitles users for a free dessert with every meal, or Zomato Gold which offers 1+1 on few dishes at select restaurants, or the recently introduces Zomato Piggybank which is a reward program.
