It’s here. At long last, it’s finally here. An heir to the Air.
Apple today at an event in Brooklyn, New York, introduced the much-awaited upgrade to its most popular notebook — the MacBook Air. The new MacBook Air brings a host of improvements and yes, that does include a Retina display.
In addition to a brighter, sharper 13.3-inch display, the bezels around the new MacBook Air’s screen are also narrower. As expected, it ditches the standard old ports for two USB Type-C ones and a headphone jack. Apple has even added a fingerprint reader but thankfully, not the Touchbar.
Apple has overhauled nearly aspect of the MacBook Air and sadly, that does include the keyboard. The new MacBook Air comes with the same third-generation Butterfly keys found on the latest MacBook Pro. On the plus side, the trackpad is now 20% larger and supports Force Touch.
Apple hasn’t, of course, overlooked the original traits which made the MacBook Air a hit in the first place — portability and battery life. Thanks to the absence of any conventional ports, the new MacBook Air is 17 percent smaller by volume and 10 percent thinner at 15.6mm than its predecessor. What’s more, it weighs 2.75 pounds which is nearly a quarter-pound lighter.
It still has the same wedge-shaped design but is built with the same, more refined aluminum materials the MacBook Pros feature. As for the battery life, Apple claims the new MacBook Air can last thirteen hours of iTunes movie playback which is certainly a rather odd way of measuring.
Unlike before, being an Air doesn’t mean it compromises on power. The 2018 MacBook Air is powered by Intel’s 8th Gen dual-core processors with integrated graphics, up to 16GB of memory, and up to 1.5TB SSD. What’s more, it has stereo speakers and three microphones for better “Hey Siri” hands-free recognition.
With new features, obviously, comes a higher price tag and the MacBook Air is no different. It starts at $1,199 for 8GB RAM, 1.6GHz Core 15, 128GB storage and will be available from November 7th, orders for which are open today. The one with 256GB storage is priced at $1,399. There are three color options to choose from — gold, space grey, and silver. In India, the MacBook Air starts from Rs 1,14,990 and will go on sale from November 7th.
