After numerous leaks and rumors, the Honor Magic 2 has officially been announced today in an event held in China. And it looks every bit magical as we were expecting. The design language of the Honor Magic 2 follows closely to the recently launched Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 which has a sliding design, meaning the front-facing camera(s) are tucked into a mechanism that slides out from behind the display.
The Honor magic 2 is the brand’s latest flagship smartphone and comes with the all-new 7nm based HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC. The display is the main highlight of the smartphone as it completely stretches up to all four corners and does not have a notch that hinders the viewing experience. The display itself is a Full HD+ panel measuring 6.39 inches diagonally with 2.5D curves and a resolution of 1080 x 2340.
RAM and Storage variants include 6 or 8GB of RAM along with 128 or 256GB of internal storage with a special top-end variant with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage coming later this year. Another unique aspect of the Honor Magic 2 is the fact that it sports a whopping six cameras – three to the front and three to the back. The rear vertical setup houses two 16MP sensors along with a 24MP sensor while the front settles for a primary 16MP shooter with two 2MP cameras. The two lower resolution cameras are used to map a 3D image of a person’s face. Of course, since it’s Honor, there are a ton of AI features baked into the camera software.
The fingerprint scanner resides under the display and the Magic 2 comes with modest 3400mAh battery to power the internals which charges over USB Type-C at a power rating of 40W which seems incredibly fast. The Honor Magic 2 runs on EMUI 9.0 based on top of Android 9 Pie.
