How to Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 with blackRa1n RC3?
Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes if you haven’t already. (download link ).
Step 2: You will now need to first update/restore to the original iPhone OS firmware 3.1.2 on your iPhone by using the latest version of iTunes.
Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 for iPhone 2G
Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 for iPhone 3G
Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 for iPhone 3GS
Step 3: Download blackra1n RC3 for Windows or Mac (download link at the end of the post).
Step 4: Start blackra1n app. If you are running it on Windows 7 or Vista, run the app with “Windows XP Compatibility” mode by enabling it from the “Properties” tab to avoid any errors during the jailbreak process.
Step 5: Click on “make it ra1n”
Your iPhone will be placed in recovery mode
Step 6: Let the app do its thing and wait for the phone to automatically reboot.
Step 7: You should now have “blackra1n” in the list of applications on your iPhone. Run “blackra1n” app and select the packages you want to install like “Cydia”. This will jailbreak your iPhone or iPod touch on iPhone 3.1.2 firmware.
Step 8: Finally reboot your iPhone. That’s it! You should now have fully jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch running on firmware 3.1.2.

Downloaded blackra1n, clicked and phone got rebooted but I cannot find blackra1n icon on my phone spring board.

Does not work, I have a 3GS, everything runs ok, but when it gets to the last screen, “Done, wait for reboot” that is it. it never reboots and when you finally, reboot the iphone manually, nothing happens.

Ok, for everybody who has the itunes pb, here is the solution cause i had the same pb and firgured it out: Sync iphone, then eject BUT don’t remove from pc, then click “make it rain” and DO NOT click on the error message that itunes pops up, just go by the flow, then your iphone will reboot and have blackra1n on it… ! If it works out, you’re welcome, ^^ !

Do i need the sim card in the phone while doing the jailbreak?
Also, will it affect any of my other apps, like do I need to re-install everything after the jailbreak?

After step 2 you are missing some instructions.
After the download of the firmware follow this:
Plug in the iphone to your computer.
turn off the phone.
Now you need to get into DFU mode.
Hold onto to the power button for 3 seconds.
Then hold onto the home button on the iphone for 10 seconds ( do not release your finger from the power button).
Then release the power button for 30 seconds while still holding down on the hold button.
Then Itunes should say recovery mode was detected.
Now on a mac, you need hold onto alt and then restore.
On Windows, hold shift and then restore.
Now you can choose the 3.1.2 firmware that you downloaded from this site.
Now you can follow the rest of the direction.

How long do I need to wait for my iPone to restart? In fact, I have follow the step to “blackra1n” entering rcovery…, but it seem to stuck on that point with the iTune asking to rcovery my iPhone.
I have tried also to follow *[B4U]*’s steps and steve’s as well, but seem everything appeares the same to me. I have to reboot iPhone manually and re-enter iTune recovery (using steve’s steps) again and again (I have wait for 2 hours max) for about 5 times now.
I’m admitted that I new in iPhone 3Gs but I have done this once on my girlfriend’s 2G (could not remember if it blackra1n or other app for jailbreak). Also, I have used MS PPC from the wince3 till 6.1 and hack almost everything that have steps provided in the web.
Please help as I do not know what to do next.

I tried it a couple of times – without success:
3G 8GB – OrangePL branded
MBP 10.5.8
The latest iTunes 9.0.2
The latest firmwareupdate 3.1.2
I startet blackra1n, its entered the revovery mode and startet iTunes.
iTunes tried to connect wiht the apple server – I think with the Server for iPhone Software Updates – and in this moment blackra1n crashed – the Ignore; Report…; Restart – Dialog appeared.
Any idea what i do wrong?? Thx for your help!

C’mon, i told you what to do, it’s simple:
1) connect your iphone and let sync,
2) eject but DO NOT unplug,
3) start blackra1n,
4) DO NOT TOUCH anything, let the phone be,
5) iphone will reboot and is jailbroken,
6) click on blackra1n icone on iphone, and voila… !
That should work, it did for me !

i got a similar problem. i jailbroke my 2g nd i have no service wat so ever. the internet will work if i connect to wifi but i cant really do shit if im not near it. idk wat to do ive never unlocked an iphone b4 nd this is my first one that i bought off my mans. i dont have at&t i got a prepaid sidekick plan t-mobile sim

*[BFU]* i am SO close to figuring this out. I followed your directions works just fine but when it reboots it reboots with the usb connect icon and doesnt ever go to the homepage. i tried with 4 separate iphone 3gs’ brand new and they all give me the same problem. after the geohot person and the reboot it comes up with the usb icon and i have to restore via itunes.

I ran into the same problem as r2suede, I run blackra1n and the program goes to the entering recovery part and hangs up there. Then the phone has the USB and iTunes screen and hangs up there. I too tried to ‘eject’ the iPhone from iTunes and repeat the same steps and have the same results, making me have to restore my iPhone completely. I even tried manually restarting the iPhone a number of times and nothing seems to work.
Here are my phone specs:
16GB 3GS, firmware 3.1.2 and baseband 5.11.07
Also, I am using windows vista 32-bit. I even tried opening the program using windows XP SP2 compatibility and everything hangs up at the same place. Thank in advance for the help guys, u guys rock!

Ok, it seems to work now. After running the steps mentioned above, I closed blackra1n and changed the compatibility back to normal compatibility (unchecked the box) and the program ran as advertised! Great job guys! I will donate some money, cause u guys fucking rock!! THX again!

Dudes!!! THANK YOU!!!! I WAS GOING NUTS! I tried everything that everyone was saying, and finally after unchecking the compatibility mode it ran like butter!
So to be exact: I plugged in the iPhone 3GS
Ejected it from itunes
Unchecked “run in compatibility for XP”, instead ran Blackra1n natural.
Made sure all of the apple programs were turned off using task manager.
Ran the program… didn’t do anything, so I just activated my iPhone screen and tried again.
That’s it, it ran and was done in less than 30 seconds.

im having problems jailbreaking my iphone. I have 3G 8G, updated to firm 3.1.2 with a new baseband. I ran blackrain, iphone rebooted fine. Then I went into the blackrain app on my iphone and installed cydia and rebooted iphone again. Then I tried to sync back all my apps and only the ones downloaded for free got uploaded to my iphone. All the other ones from appulo.us won’t get uploaded. It seems like the jailbreak didn’t work at all. I strictly followed all the procedures and still nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Did you apply the Appsync 3.1 patch? You need to apply this patch in order for the appulo.us apps to work. Search the web for Appsync and install 3.1 version. It is working on my 3G.

I have 3g 8gb, winXP, i have deleted itunes(as suggested after repeated failure of jailbreak) and firmware 3.1.2….I get hung up with a black screen after blackra1n starts to run and after the restore USB and itunes cd screen…but can reset back to springboard.tried over and over, i have created new admin user unblocked the blackra1n file and still not getting the blackra1n logo to show up and jailbreak to finish though it states it’s done once it reboots,but never auto reboots??????????? Why won’t it work for me? tried holding the home and power button combo..nothing different happened. any other suggestions?

@r2suede: euh, got a lil’ question, did you close itunes, because you gotta let it open… i did it exactly how i said in my steps on a MAC, and it worked fine with my 3G and now just fine with my 3GS…
1) connect your iphone and let sync,

Euh, i kinda had that pb as well, were i wanted to reinstall blackrain on my iphone to desinstall cydia and reinstall it, but each time i used blackrain, after my iphone rebooted, there was no icon, so the only thing i can tell you to do is, restore your iphone settings and then try again… !

I Jailbroke and unlocked my iphone 3g 3.2.1 about 3 days ago using blackra1n rc3. The unlock and jailbreak was extremely successful, and i wish i would have done this a lot sooner. One issue, I am on T-mobile network, and i cannot get 3G coverage, nor can i access the internet. I have changed my plan so that it has the internet on the plan but everytime i go to acces a webpage or any apps, it says cant connect to internet….What can i do to fix this??? I really need help. If you are on tmboiles network, go to the tmobile website, in the search field type “iphone internet”. Once the list of blogs load select, the one titled “Iphone questions answered” (sorry if this is not the exact verbiage, but the blog has an august post date. Once you open that there is a list of steps to take to get internet access and mms back on the unlocked iphone…. there are a few stipulations but they are listed with troubleshooting ideas if for some reason it didnt work. as you can see i posted on here twice to get the question answered but couldnt get it right!!! TMOBILE.com helped a ton!

I successfully jailbroke my 3g iphone. I put my Tmobile sim card in the phone and it does get signal, but never 3g coverage. I also, have an issue with the internet, and running apps. anytime i try to access the net it says that i need a data package. I HAVE a data package….. is there anyway to trouble shoot this??? as i want to donate to the GEoHot but it not functioning as i thought it would. PLEASE HELP!!!

I used blackra1n on my ipod touch followed all the instructions and cydia did work on the ipod. My problem is that now if i restart the ipod it goes back into restore mode where i see the connect to itunes symbols and when i do connect to itunes it asks me to restore. when i do restore i lose everything… the blackra1n icon and all other apps and music. It goes right back to the factory setting. PLEASE HELP PLEASE…

I downloaded blackra1n RC3 on to my iphone 3g. It got installed fine but when i opened that app on the phone it shows please connect to the internet. I do have wifi but its not connecting. Moreover, the wifi itself is not working. I deleted the blackra1n RC3 from the iphone but still the wifi is not working. I restarted the phone but the prob stil remains …. anyone have any idea whts going on?? pls help me out guys ….
