The Essential Phone has been available for a while now. However, plagued with software issues and inadequate camera quality, the company could only sell a couple thousand (5000 to be precise) till now. In an attempt to improve those numbers, Essential has slashed off $200 bringing down the price of PH-01 to $499 in the United States.

You can buy the Essential Phone at this new price tag only on the company’s website as of now, however. Furthermore, Essential is also offering an additional $200 friends & family code to its early supporters. This coupon will be applicable towards either the Essential 360 Camera or another Essential Phone. Essential also made the “Pure White” color variant option recently and fortunately, the discount is valid on that as well.

While it’s quite obvious this price cut comes as a result of lackluster sales, Essential says it is doing so to spread the word around the market. “We could have created a massive TV campaign to capture your attention, but we think making it easier for people to get their hands on our first products is a better way to get to know us.“, wrote Essential on its blog.

To recap,  the Essential Phone comes with a 5.71-inch edge-to-edge display on the front (2560 x 1312 pixels), dual cameras, and lacks a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Moreover, the smartphone is built with a sumptuous combination of titanium and ceramic allowing it to take a few hits when dropped. As far as the specifications are concerned, the Essential Phone is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor, 4 gigs of RAM, Adreno 540 GPU, 3040 mAh battery, Bluetooth 5.0, Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and 128GB of onboard storage. Lastly, it includes a dual-camera setup on the rear with a regular 13-megapixel f/1.85 shooter and another monochrome sensor. That additional lens allows the phone to capture significantly more light for better night shots. On the front, you will also find an 8-megapixel camera which can also capture 4K videos
