Oppo has today announced its latest 5G smartphone, the Ace 2, in China. The phone appears to be a successor to the Reno Ace from last year and is the first in the lineup to get wireless charging. However, unlike any regular wireless charging, the one on the Ace 2 is an impressive 40W AirVOOC charging technology, something not a lot of smartphone manufacturers offer as of now. Besides, it also packs the latest Snapdragon 865 chipset with a 4D cooling system, quad rear cameras, and of course, 5G connectivity. Let’s have a look at some of the other specifications of the phone in detail.
Oppo Ace 2: Design and Display
From the first look, the Ace 2 appears to have a striking design, with a circular camera module housing the quad-camera array on the rear and a hole-punch display with minimal bezels on the front offering a 91.7% screen-to-body ratio. The back of the phone has a gradient finish, and it comes in three color options: Aurora Silver, Moon Rock Grey, and Fantasy Purple.
Towards the front, the phone features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with HDR support, a 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, and Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. The panel offers a 90Hz refresh rate, as can be seen on some top-of-the-line smartphones in the market, and has a hole-punch on the top left for the front-facing camera.
Oppo Ace 2: Performance
At its core, the Oppo Ace 2 has the Snapdragon 865 processor (with Adreno 650 GPU) running under the hood, which is a 2.84GHz octa-core chipset from Qualcomm, with 5G connectivity. It includes 8GB / 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB / 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage. To power the internals, there is a 4000mAh battery with 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 Flash Charge and the first-time-ever on an Oppo phone, 40W AirVOOC Wireless Fast Charging. Additionally, the phone also offers a 5W reverse wireless charging solution. According to the company, the 65W Flash Charge can charge the 4000mAh battery on the device in less than 30 minutes, while the 40W AirVOOC does the same in 56 minutes, which is way faster compared to most wireless charging solutions in the market currently.
As for other specifications, the Ace 2 comes with 5G SA/NSA, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ax, and Bluetooth 5.1, for connectivity, and it runs on ColorOS 7.1 based on Android 10 out of the box. The phone includes a 4D cooling solution that features a carbon fiber-based vapor cooling chamber. Furthermore, it comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner for authentication and also has stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound.
Oppo Ace 2: Camera
For optics, Ace 2 features a quad-camera setup on the rear, encased within a circular camera module. The setup includes a 48MP primary sensor with f/1.7 aperture, which is accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide-sensor with f/2.2 aperture and 116° FoV, a 2MP portrait lens, and a 2MP mono lens. Moving to the front, the device comes with a 16MP selfie camera with f/2.4 aperture.
