iOS 27 Beta 3 Is Here

iOS 27

Apple has officially started rolling out iOS 27 Beta 3. If you are testing iOS 27 beta on your iPhone, you can go to General, then Software Update, and update to the latest version.

The biggest update is Apple continuing to refine the Liquid Glass design. Now, it is even better and smoother. Siri now supports third-party apps, you can customize Siri voices, and 5G Plus is enabled on supported iPhones in India.

You can check out the full list of features added to iOS 27 Beta 3. You can also check the full changelog of all iOS versions from here.

The Big Picture:
For those who are not testing beta, Apple will officially roll out iOS 27 in September, alongside the upcoming iPhone 18 series. Beta versions often have bugs that can hinder your daily user experience.

If your iPhone is your primary device, we wouldn’t recommend installing beta updates on your primary iPhone. Although iOS 27 is the best and smoothest beta we have ever tried, we still want you to wait until the public rollout.

Alongside Apple, they have also started rolling out beta versions for macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and iPadOS. The watchOS beta brings Siri to the watch for the first time.

All those beta versions are currently live. You can go to Software Update settings on all the devices and update to the latest beta versions. Alongside the iOS 27 beta updates, Apple also released the iOS 26.6 betas to developers.

Apple Is Extending Its Chip Partnership with Broadcom Until 2031

Broadcom

In 2023, both Apple and Broadcom announced a multi-billion-dollar deal where Broadcom will supply Apple with important wireless components, including 5G radio frequency components, FBAR filters, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips, and more. Now Apple has extended this deal to 2031.

According to Reuters, Broadcom is already one of the biggest suppliers for Apple for its networking components. Based on the current deal, the partnership between Apple and Broadcom is extending for even more years, and Broadcom will continue supplying these components until 2031.

The Big Picture:
Apple is still relying on others for its hardware needs. Especially, the company is expected to use a split strategy for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series, where it is expected to use its in-house developed 5G modems for the upcoming iPhones.

Neither Apple nor Broadcom has disclosed what type of components or which type of devices will use those components, but they state that they will be used in multiple future generations of Apple products.

Apple Restores Card Payments for Apple Account Purchases in India

Credit and debit cards

Apple restores card payments for Apple Account purchases in India. Apple removed card payments in India in May 2020 after changing recurring payment rules. Now, after four years, Apple is again restoring card payments, which means you can use your Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards for Apple subscriptions, including iCloud+, Apple Music, and Apple Store purchases. The feature is currently rolling out.

In the US, the 2TB Plus plan costs $9.99 per month, whereas in India, it costs about Rs 750 per month. If you opt in for this, you will get future features like video descriptions, natural language video search, clip solutions, and much more.

Google and Android News

More Android Backup Data Will Now Count Towards Your Google Account Storage

Google Account Storage

Google is changing Android backup storage rules. Now, even more Android backup data will count towards your Google account storage, which now includes your SMS, call history, and device settings.

Previously, only Google Photos backups and MMS media counted toward your Google account storage, but with this update, even more services will be added and count toward your storage limit.

However, Google says this will not take up much space for most users; it is expected to be around 40 MB for an average user. Plus, Google is also offering the ability to turn off backup if you want for certain services, including your SMS, call history, and device settings. These changes will be rolled out in the coming weeks for old users and for new users starting July 7, 2026.

To customize backup, on Pixel phones, you can go to Settings, then Account and backup, and Google Backup. For non-Pixel devices, you can go to Google Account, then Data, and Backup.

Google says this change will be rolled out by default for all new Android backup users from July 7, 2026, and existing users will get this update in the coming days.

The Big Picture:
Google isn’t as generous as it once used to be. For all new Gmail accounts, Google used to offer 15 GB of free Google Drive space. However, very recently, it changed its policy: all new Google accounts without phone number verification will only get 5 GB of free storage. And now Google wants to count even more storage for all the other backups, including other services towards your Google account’s free storage.

Google allows you to upgrade your storage through Google One. However, for most users, and looking at the direction Google is heading, your 15 GB of storage might soon become very similar to Apple’s iCloud 5 GB of storage, which can fill very quickly.

With this latest update, Google says the maximum data that can be used is expected to be around 40 MB in size. If you are already at the edge of your Drive storage, this will add an extra 40 MB. It is better to clean your Google Drive storage by following all these methods and free up space.

WhatsApp Now Shows a Green Dot if Your Contact Is Online

WhatsApp Green Dot

WhatsApp is slowly turning into Instagram. Now, WhatsApp will show a green dot if a contact is online, making it easy to see their online status. Previously, to check whether the user is online, you needed to visit the contact and then visit the chat. At the top, you would see whether the person is online or not.

However, now you can see a green dot if the person is online and their online status is enabled. But it currently only appears inside the chat info. This means you need to open the chat and tap on the contact profile area at the top to see this green dot. The feature is currently still in testing and is now available for WhatsApp iOS users. Android users already got this feature last month.

The Big Picture:
WhatsApp is slowly adding features from Instagram to WhatsApp and making it more cluttered. From the past couple of releases, you can see that WhatsApp is adding features one by one from Instagram, including status updates. Now we have the green dot feature, but limiting it to the chat info screen isn’t very useful because this feature is intended to let the user find out if other users are online or not easily.

WhatsApp might also add this green dot to the home screen chat list itself to make full use of it. If you have disabled your online status, the green dot also won’t appear for the other user. We should see whether WhatsApp will also offer any controls to turn it off for other users.

Reddit Is Using AI to Fight AI-Generated Marketing Spam

Reddit Is Using AI to Fight AI-Generated Marketing Spam

Reddit is cracking down on AI-generated marketing spam posted on Reddit with its own AI. In simple words, Reddit is using its own AI to prevent AI-generated spam posts that are created with AI.

Reddit also shared a few interesting numbers. The company says that through the new system, it blocked more than 23 million spam users per day, caught roughly 25,000 new spam posts and comments, and revoked 2 million authentic votes per day. Reddit also claimed that spam posts fell around 20% between January and March 2026.

The Big Picture:
This is much needed because Reddit has become the main source for human-generated content, and more search engines are also preferring Reddit conversations over websites. That is the reason most people are using spam posts to market their products on Reddit.

Netflix Viewers Are Reportedly Giving Up on Shows After Season 1

Netflix users are dropping after one season

New data reported from Bloomberg shows that Netflix series lose a large part of their audience after season 1. We also have detailed statistics showing which shows are largely affected. For instance, Bloomberg reports that One Piece lost more than 30% of its audience for Season 2, based on the first four weeks of release. Similarly, Beef Season 2 also dropped by 70% across its first four weeks.

Other shows follow a similar pattern. The Night Agent has lost 50% of its audience for Season 2, and then another 35% for Season 3. Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 reported 8.1 billion views in the first four days, which is down 60% from Season 1.

Reports from both The Guardian and Bloomberg indicate that other Netflix shows are also showing the same pattern. While Netflix hasn’t disclosed specifics and says it is still evaluating this drop, one possible reason might be the long gap between seasons. Another factor might be the attention span and content discovery.

The Big Picture:
Content discovery has become a huge problem for streaming services, where people constantly search to find the movie they want to watch and end up wasting time. Even we ourselves are finding it hard to find the content we like. Even if we find the one we are looking for, if the first episode disappoints us, we often ditch the show.

Content streaming platforms are widespread, and switching between them for content discovery has become a major problem. With short content becoming popular, the attention spans of users are also drastically decreasing. This is changing the behavior of users when it comes to sitting and watching long-format shows.

At this point, we don’t know what concrete data Netflix will point to because of the show, but this is a bigger problem even for the other streaming platforms. If you use Netflix, what was the last show you watched?
