Similar to TWS earbuds, the budget headphones category is filled with plenty of options. Almost all headphones in this price range sound familiar, and the major differentiator is the price and the looks.

GoBoult Mustang Thunder Headphones Review

GoBoult (previously known as Boult), a popular brand in India, is trying to differentiate with its Mustang series in collaboration with Ford Mustang, specially tuned for gaming. I have been using it for the past two weeks and spending most of my time with it, and I even completed the entire Stranger Things season 5, except for the final episode.

So far, the experience has been good. If you are looking to buy headphones under rupees 3000/- or looking to buy these headphones, here is my full, detailed review after using them for two weeks.

Design and Comfort

Similar to TWS earbuds, the budget over-ear headphone market is filled with plenty of options that sound almost similar. So design plays a key role in choosing the headphones.

The GoBoult Mustang Thunder Bluetooth Headphones come in three variants: the silver and black, the pure black, and the Mustang blue color. I have the silver variant, which looks really premium with its dual-tone colors, better than most of the standard solid color options from other brands. And the orange finish inside and on the physical buttons further elevates the design.

Since this is a collaboration product, it comes with the Mustang text logo and also the iconic horse logo on both sides, and they can light up when using them. Well, if you don’t want to, you can also turn off the lights.

It offers decent build quality considering the price. The chassis is built using hard plastic, there is soft leather on the headband, and the earcups also offer a soft leather cushioning, which is very comfortable to wear. The headphones are also lightweight, weighing 234 grams, making them easy to wear for longer hours.

The best part of the headphones is that the earcups can be folded flat and also rotated, so that you can easily carry them in a bag. You can also adjust the height and fit. However, my only concern is that the cups have a glossy plastic design, which can be scratched easily if you place them with other items in your bag. However, you get a soft leather bag that feels really soft and also prevents scratches from other sharp items in your bag.

Connectivity and Gaming Performance

The headphones come with physical button controls, and all the controls are located on the left earcup. I wish they had separated power controls, but you will get used to it in time.

The buttons are tactile and very responsive. You can play or pause the sound, increase or decrease the volume using the volume controls, and long-pressing the volume button lets you change tracks. GoBoult also has an app, which you can use as a companion app to adjust the equalizer for better personalized sound. However, the app is very buggy, and I am unable to connect the device to the app.

I tried multiple times, every time the app kept loading till the end, and finally ended with an error. Another big, frustrating experience in the app is that it doesn’t let me exit when connecting devices. The app is super buggy and very frustrating; however, the default signature will suit more people.

There is no in-ear detection if you are looking for one. However, the physical buttons on the left can help you quickly play or pause the music.

It supports Bluetooth 5.4 with a 60ms low-latency gaming mode. I also haven’t faced issues with the range; most of the time, even with a couple of meters away, there are no distortions, and it’s also good for gaming without latency. There is also no Google Fast Pair support; however, it can connect to multiple devices and switch between them easily. It is very seamless.

Sound Quality

Most budget headphones are tuned for bass, and with Mustang Thunder Bluetooth Headphones, you get a similar experience. It comes with 40mm bass-boosted dynamic drivers (frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz) and offers four built-in EQ modes: Rock, Pop, Vocal, and Bass.

And because the bass is so heavy in most cases, it overshadows the treble (musical instruments); however, the vocals are fine, and these headphones can get really loud. However, the biggest concern for me is the sound leakage. If you love punchy bass, these are a great option and also for watching movies and thumping base and loud volumes.

However, the biggest downside of these headphones is the sound leakage. If your surroundings are very quiet, you can use these headphones as a speaker to listen to the audio. Even at 60% volume, these headphones leak sound, and people around you can hear what you are listening to.

I haven’t faced any issues even listening to these headphones for hours, also they sit pretty stiff on the ears and don’t hurt even when wearing them for longer hours. It doesn’t come with active noise cancellation, but it comes with ENC; however, since these are over-ear headphones, they have pretty good passive cancellation; most of the small decibel sounds get automatically blocked easily. For the price, the noise canceling is decent and on par with any headphones in this price range.

Mic and Call Quality

Another feature I like most about these headphones is the call quality; it picks up voice really well, and there were no major complaints from the other side, which isn’t the case with most of the headphones and earbuds I have used in the past. So if you make a lot of phone calls, you don’t need to worry about the quality. You can check out the mic quality yourself.

Battery Life and Charging

Battery life is very good on these headphones, and I have completed all the Stranger Things season 5 episodes without even charging them once, and still have 60 percent of the battery left in the headphones.

On average, you can expect battery life between 25 and 30 hours on regular use and even more than that if you turn off the lights and adjust the volume, which is excellent considering you don’t need to charge them often.

Even if you run out of battery, you can directly connect these headphones to the device and start listening to a wired connection. And you get good charging speeds, you can charge with any Type-C charger available, which most of the phones come with, so you also don’t need to carry an extra cable to charge your headphones.

Price and Variants

Mustang Thunder Bluetooth Headphones come in three variants. The silver variant is priced at 2999 rupees, and the other two, black and blue variants, are available for 2,499 at the time of writing this review. So if you want the best design, I highly recommend this design; however, if you are okay with other color variants, you even get a better deal.

GoBoult Mustang Thunder Review Verdict

So that’s my review of the Mustang Thunder Bluetooth Headphones. To make purchasing easy, here is my verdict.

Buy these headphones if you want strong bass and loud sound, and also if the design matters to you a lot. It comes with eye-catching designs, which make it the best-looking headphones in this price range.

Also, the lightweight design makes it easy to wear for longer hours. And one of the biggest strengths is the battery life; even after a long listening session, there is still plenty of battery life left to use without charging.

Even if there is no battery, you can use it with a wired connection, provided in the box. The 60ms low latency is also good for gaming if you want to use it to play games like BGMI and multiplayer games.

However, these headphones are not for people who want to listen to balanced and more detailed sound, and sound leakage is a big concern, even at around 60 percent volume, so people around you can hear what you are listening to. The app experience is also poor; you cannot customize your sound experience currently.
