Will Cathcart Is Stepping Down, and Kunal Shah Will Take Over as the New Head of WhatsApp

WhatsApp Leadership Handover

Will Cathcart, who led WhatsApp for seven years, is stepping down. Kunal Shah, who is the founder of the fintech company, Cred, in India, is set to become the new head of WhatsApp Global. All three of them (Cathcart, Mark Zuckerberg, and Kunal Shah) have announced this update on their official X and Facebook handles.

The Big Picture:
If you live outside India, you might not know Kunal Shah, who is the founder of Cred, a popular fintech app in India. It lets people manage bills and get reward points for timely payments. It also supports UPI and lends money. However, it has set up a unique name for its unique design interface and iconic ads. Kunal Shah has been the face of the Cred app since the beginning. However, now he is moving to WhatsApp as the head of global, where he leads WhatsApp globally.

Kunal Shah announced that Miten Sampat will now become the CEO of Cred. As part of the deal, Meta also invested $900,000,000 into the Cred app. Although Kunal mentions that Meta has no access to Cred’s sensitive members’ data, we should know what actual details Meta gains as part of this deal .

WhatsApp is already the most popular messaging app around the world. In India, it is rare for a single person to be without WhatsApp installed on their smartphone. Although many local apps have tried to replace WhatsApp, they have failed to do so because of the network advantage WhatsApp has.

As the new global head of WhatsApp, we should see what Kunal is going to change. WhatsApp is already in a mature state and is struggling with monetization. The company recently rolled out several features, including WhatsApp Plus and the introduction of ads in status, and is slowly becoming a clone of Instagram.

Instagram App Is Coming to More TVs

Instagram TVs

After making Instagram available for the Amazon Fire TV Stick and Google TV, Meta is now adding the Instagram app to Samsung TVs. Users will now be able to watch Reels directly on the TV and also see stories and even horizontal videos with the recent update. It seems like Meta wants to acquire new users and has decided to launch the Instagram app on TV. If you own any of these platforms, we are eager to know whether you are willing to install the Instagram app on your TV or not. You can share your answer in the comments below.

Telegram Has Started Working in India Again

After the ban, Telegram has started working in India again. When I tested it, it worked for me. If you are still facing connection issues, wait a little longer until your ISP unblocks it. If you are still facing issues even after a couple of days, it might be an issue with the Telegram app itself.

We have made a detailed video on how to fix connection issues on Telegram, which you can check below.

The New Version of the X App for Android Is Now Rolling Out to Everyone

Twitter app for Android new

The new version of the X app for Android appears to be rolling out for everyone, and it brings a lot of changes. The animations are smoother now, and the update also changes the interface and removes the ability to see who quoted the posts for other accounts and more.

The Big Picture:
Honestly, I am using it on my OnePlus 13, and I hate it. While the animations are smoother, it felt like it was overly forcing animations on every interaction you have.

For instance, opening and closing images are smooth, but it also applies to opening tweets; I feel like that sliding fading away is overkill. However, some users reported that there is an option to switch back to the original X, but I couldn’t find it.

I tried to uninstall and reinstall the app, and for a short time after installing, I was able to use the old version of Twitter. I also disabled auto-updates on the Play Store. However, it seems like the update is on the server side, and it was updated to the latest version again after some time. If you are using Twitter and have the latest version, what are your opinions? Please share in the comments below.

Moreover, X is also rolling out a new, updated interface for notifications.

ChatGPT Signs a Multi-Billion Dollar Deal with Getty Images to Show Them in Chats

If you see more Getty Images surfacing in your ChatGPT responses and in the search results, it is not strange, as OpenAI has signed a multi-year deal with Getty Images to surface those images in the ChatGPT responses and the search results.

Nearly 60% of TikTok Videos Shown to a New Account Are AI-Generated

AI Videos Take Over Feeds

According to the latest report by Kapwing, nearly 60% of the TikTok videos shown to a new account are AI-generated. 21% of YouTube videos were also AI-generated slop.

The Big Picture:
AI-generated videos have become a major concern. Since AI video generation models are available to the public, users are using them to generate AI content and posting it on social media. The worst part is that most of these videos are AI slop without adding any value, and some of them are for engagement, while others are for spreading fake news. Some are even fake and spam videos.

Social media platforms are struggling to find and combat this AI slop. For instance, on YouTube, most of the short videos are increasingly AI-generated lately. It is not that all AI-generated videos are bad. However, some people are increasingly generating them without adding any value, for spreading fake information or for engagement. However, what’s even bigger is the concern that social media algorithms are increasingly recommending these AI-generated videos to users.

Because AI-generated content is generally designed to grab attention by including shocking visuals and hooks, most users who may not even be aware they are watching an AI-generated video spend more time watching them, and these algorithms treat this as a high engagement factor. So, as a result, they continue to recommend more of these videos.

Anthropic Is Testing Claude Cowork Support for Mobile Apps

You will soon be able to control Claude Cowork tasks from your mobile. A new feature found on the Claude iOS desktop app shows a new Claude Cowork feature in the sidebar. Currently, there is no information about how it actually works and how it is different from the dispatch feature, where you can use your mobile phone to create tasks, and they will execute on your computer.

The onboarding screen says you can start and sync tasks from your mobile app. It even works if the app is closed, and you can check the results on any platform, including web, desktop, and mobile app. The feature is still in testing, and we should see the full details about how it actually works in the coming days.

OpenAI Is Rolling Out an Updated Version of GPT-5.5-Cyber

OpenAI has released an updated version of GPT-5.5 Cyber, where the company says it’s now more capable and more permissive. As per the benchmark shared by Sam Altman on X, it beats Claude Mythos 5 models and also the previous GPT-5.5-Cyber model from OpenAI itself.

The Big Picture:
For those who are not aware, this cyber model is not generally available to the public. It is designed for companies to securely test their codebases and fix any exploits.

It is interesting to see that OpenAI is openly launching models for the public, whereas, on the other hand, Anthropic is being regulated by the U.S. government. As per benchmarks, GPT-5.5-Cyber scored 85.6% on CyberGym, compared with 81.8% for GPT-5.5. You can see the detailed benchmarks below.

Sakana Fugu is a New Model That Combines Output from Multiple Models and Beats Mythos in Benchmarks

A new model is in town from Sakana AI. It combines several models to produce an output that overtakes Claude Mythos. While we haven’t tested the model directly, as per the benchmarks and the results shown across the web, it is capable of producing reliable output results, sometimes even beating the popular American Claude and OpenAI models.

Sakana Fugu isn’t a model; it is an orchestration layer that uses output from multiple models. It routes your request to different models based on the requirements and produces a combined output from different models.

Using this system is also expensive compared to standalone models. As per the benchmark shared by the company, it even beats Claude’s powerful model, Mythos 5, and also GPT 5.5 in some benchmarks. You can take a look at the benchmarks for yourself.

Google Is Working on a New Pixel Feature Called Audio Memory

Google might be working on a new audio memory feature for the Pixel 10 devices that listens to the audio around you in the background and creates notes for you. In simple words, it is an AI assistant that listens to your conversations during your entire day and creates a summary of all the things that your phone has heard.

For more privacy, it runs locally on the device. Currently, there is no information on how exactly this feature is going to work (whether it is going to listen to the entire audio from your phone, or just the audio from your phone calls, or from the apps you permitted).

Smartphone News

Nothing Is Going to Launch a New Smartphone

Just after announcing that Nothing is not launching any smartphone under the CMF brand this year due to the rising memory costs, Nothing has now decided to launch a new smartphone under the Nothing Phone (4b) series.

The Big Picture:
Currently, there is no information about this smartphone, as Nothing only started teasing it a week ago. It is surprising that the phone hasn’t leaked in the wild, considering most recent launches were leaked online well in advance, and most of them intentionally to create marketing buzz. For now, what’s confirmed is that it’s going to be a smartphone. It will be a come-under series called the B, which is expected to be named Nothing Phone (4b). We don’t know how much the smartphone is going to cost, but considering the naming scheme, it is likely going to be priced lower than the Nothing Phone 4a series.

We should also see how much Nothing is going to price the smartphone, given that they canceled the CMF series this year due to rising memory costs.
