The popular iPhone hacker Geohot has finally released the much awaited blackra1n RC3 with blacksn0w which unlocks both iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS running on iPhone 3.1.2 firmware with 05.11.07 baseband.
This latest version of blackra1n includes unlock and jailbreak for 3.1.2 firmware on 05.11.07 baseband, option for enabling native Internet Tethering on the iPhone, hacktivation support, 15 seconds speed improvement and support for OS X Tiger & PPC (PowerPC) Macs.
Here is what’s important to note:
* BlackSn0w unlocks baseband 05.11.07
* BlackSn0w enables internet tethering
* BlackSn0w is for iPhone 3G and 3GS users only
Those of you with iPhone 2G should follow the guide posted here for unlocking and jailbreaking 3.1.2 firmware. Here is a complete step by step guide on how to unlock iPhone 3G and 3GS running 3.1.2 firmware on 05.11.07 baseband with blacksn0w.
NOTE: Those of you who have already installed blackra1n RC1 or RC2 should just run the the app and touch on “ra1n”, which has been added now instead of “Icy”. This will upgrade blackra1n to RC3. Now simply follow the instruction written in Step 5 below to unlock your iPhone.
with 3.1.2 firmware on 05.11.07 baseband.
How to unlock iPhone 3.1.2 with blackSn0w?
* As mentioned above, if you previously jailbroke your iPhone using BlackRa1n and you kept the blackra1n.app on it, then run BlackRa1n. The Icy icon should be replaced by the “ra1n” option. Select “ra1n” to upgrade BlackRa1n to RC3. After upgrading, run BlackRa1n and you should see the “sn0w” option. Just select “sn0w” and it will unlock your iPhone.
* If you were waiting to update to 3.1.2 or if your iPhone was stuck locked, then download BlackSn0w, run it, reboot, and choose the “sn0w” option from the BlackRa1n.app.
* If your iPhone was previously jailbroken using PwnageTool or if you deleted the BlackRa1n.app from your iPhone, BlackSn0w will be added to Cydia later during the day.
Step 1: Download the latest version of iTunes if you haven’t already. (Download link)
Step 2: Update/restore to the original (stock) iPhone firmware 3.1.2 on your iPhone by using the latest version of iTunes.
Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 for iPhone 2G
Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 for iPhone 3G
Download iPhone OS 3.1.2 for iPhone 3GS
Step 3: You will now have to jailbreak your iPhone running on iPhone 3.1.2 firmware with blackra1n RC3. Follow the complete step by step guide posted before in order to jailbreak your iPhone 3G/3GS with blackra1n RC3.
Step 4: Once you are done with the jailbreak, start the blackra1n app and you should now see “sn0w” option as can be seen from the screenshot below:
Step 5: Now simply touch on “sn0w” to install blacksn0w on your iPhone. This will automatically unlock your iPhone 3G/3GS running 3.1.2 firmware on 05.11.07 baseband.
blacksn0w will soon be available on Cydia too. If you have upgraded to 3.1.2 firmware with PwnageTool 3.1.4, then you will soon be able to unlock your iPhone with 05.11.07 baseband with ease. Stay tuned for more updates on this!

Reset network settings, reboot you should have wifi back. It took a couple of tries but i’ m writing this on the phone that had no wifi 5 min ago!

I tried with both RC1 and RC2 at least 6 or 7 times but still not yet success.
Now, Im gonna break with RC3. Hopefully..going smooth and not happen to me again. Its nightmare to restore back.

I have the same problem, I realized that my itnes is 9.0.1 not 9.0.2 so I am now upgrading itunes and trying again..that is so frustrating bec evertyhing else seems to work fine but whenever i restart it, it is in recovery..sucks! please email me whenever you find a solution, will you? I downloaded blackra1n and then i went to install cydia and snow…however it has been stuck on snow for like and hour. it says unpacking snow and it is just circling and the bar is complete…what do I do from here?!

Ive tried running BlackRa1n several times now and still it comes to the first screen lock where it only allows emergency calls. I tried running it with the SIM card (Im T-mobile, phone has never been unlocked) and without it. I actually restored it yesterday thinking that was my problem, but now I cant even use wifi or access my itunes or anything. Its just a paperweight with an annoying message No Sim Card Installed. Insert a valid SIM with no PIN lock to activate phone and iTunes wont recognize it either. This sucks!

I bought jailbteaked phone with 3.1.2 firmware and 05.11.07 baseband.
Now I need to unlock this phone and did as above instruction.
After clicked blackra1n, phone got re-booted but I cannot find blackra1n icon on spring board.
Can anybody help?

I installed the new iPhone1,2_3.1.2_7D11_Restore.ipsw with itunes on my Iphone 3g, then I used blackra1n it shut off the phone went to safe mode installed blackra1n app, then I went on the blackra1n app installed “Snow” reboot and noting happens I mean it always said “searching…” then “no service” can anyone please help?

1) On your iPhone 3G and 3GS, navigate to Settings –> General –> Reset –> Reset Network Settings.
2) A dialog will prompt you with “Reset Network Settings” button
3) Hit this button and turn off your iPhone by holding down power button on the top and then slide to turn off your phone. Now turn on your iPhone by holding down the power button on the top again until you see the Apple logo.

I reset the network. It did not ask me to power off but goes into apple logo. Now I cannot power it off at all and it won’t go into recovery mode. It keeps cycling thru the apple logo multiple times evey one minute. I cannot even restore it. Please help.

May I ask my Iphone was jailbreaking with prwntool but I just updated to 3.1.2 from Itune and now i am in Emergency Mode No Sim Card after updated my iphone to 3.1.2. What should I do now now? I had the same problem, the post install log stayed blank for few mins, so I pressed the home button to get out. Then I started blackra1n again and installed sn0w again with success.

Hi,
I installed blackrain RC3 and unlock works fine, only with a reboot the iphone comes in recovery mode. With the iphone connected to itunes and de blackrain jailbreak open the iphone starts up.
When i disconnect te cable to the PC or MAC, the iphone keeps comming in recovery mode.
SW 3.1.2 (7D11) Modem 05.11.07.
Someone has a tip to solve the problem ?
My workaround is to connect the iphone to PC or MAC whith blackrain jailbrak open. Then the iphone boots without going to recovery mode.
Even wifi is working.

Have you heard any answer yet? I am able to get into recovery mode finally and now restoring. I used RC2 before and did not have this issue. But once I ran RC3 to re-jailbreak, I get into this weird issue again. Resetting the network makes it worse.

For some reason when I insert the sim it wants me to connect to itunes and it then says there’s a problem with the iphone and to contact apple. I’ve read that the iphone needs to be activated with the original sim or something like that but it was bought second hand and I don’t have the original sim. Any ideas??

OMG thanks sooo much. I have been trying to unlock my phones for AGES. I did both mine and my husbands (3 phones all up) and the only hint I would give is once you download the .exe file use it to jailbreak/unlock one phone then delete the file and download it again for the next phone. I initially tried the same .exe file for the 2nd iphone and it wouldn’t work. Once I deleted the original file and re downloaded it, it worked fine.

MOST of it works. I had to use the “push/wifi” fix to get the wifi back and I have signal MOST of the time……….but after not using the phone for a while, when i either get a call or make a call, the call will “fail”, then the signal goes, then the “searching” appears then the signal comes back strong……..then all the other calls within a reasonable amount of time are fine………if i don’t use the phone for another hour or so, the same thing happens again………

OMG! I am not very experienced at all at this… I actually paid to have my iphone unlocked previously and decided it was time to teach myself… there were a few little things like the blacksnow freeze up which i hit the home button and tried again (per comments from others) and it worked perfectly..my phone is on t-mobile running 3.1.2 with no problems.. I will definitely donate.. All I can say is WOW! If I can do this anyone can.. keep the info coming!

I cant seem to get the unlock to work on this Rogers iphone 3G. When we insert the new SIM card from Bell we get a message asking to connect to itunes and then it says theres a problem with the phone. Am I missing a step? Does the new SIM card have to be IN the phone when I run blacksnow? I also noticed that if I go into the About section of my iphone it says Not available for the carrier. I checked on a Bell iphone and they have Bell 5.1 listed for the carrier. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I unlocked my phone using blacksnow and jailbroke using blackra1n rc3. The jailbreak worked without any issue. After unlocking the phone I put in a tmobile sim card and I have not had 3g coverage or the internet. No safari nothing. Its been nearly two weeks. I have tried the network settings reset. Wifi works fine but anytime I try to connect to internet or facebook it says no data package but I am paying for data package. How can I fix. Please please help me.
