Download iOS 4.1 Firmware Update for iPhone & iPod Touch

As expected, Apple has released the iOS 4.1 firmware update for iPhone and iPod Touch with loads of new features including Game Center, High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography and others. You can direct download iOS 4.1 or update using iTunes 10.

Note: Jailbreakers and unlockers should stay away from iOS 4.1 as there is NO jailbreak for iOS 4.1 at the moment. Also, the baseband gets updated which will nullify your carrier unlock.


Download iOS 4.1 [Direct DOwnload]

Once you download the ipsw file, you can install it manually by going to iTunes, then hold “Shift” key and click on “update” button. Locate and select iOS 4.1 IPSW file. Now let the iOS 4.1 install complete.

    I didn’t realize this would delete all my music and apps as well. Surely this can’t be right? Thankfully I haven’t tried it yey, I’m just going off the above comment.

      assuming, the comment is not a troll, it doesn’t delete if updated properly (Note – it’s ‘update’ and not ‘restore’). In any case backing up on iTunes is bare minimal thing to do.

    Well in the downloaded files title it says “restore” so yes you will lose all apps n music.

      According to Apple, the file is meant to be used when restoring the firmware, but then people don’t really follow what Apple asks them to do, right?

      The file might get renamed to .zip, just rename it back to .ipsw

      rename it to .ipsw and it will work fine.

    I have tried downloading this file a number of times now and i have followed the steps, but it keeps saying “could not be restored because the firmware file is not compatible”. Help?
