OnePlus, after two days of its global launch, has now launched its fifth (fourth?) flagship smartphone in India at an event held in Mumbai. The OnePlus 5 (they skipped 4) will be available to purchase exclusively on Amazon starting at Rs 32,999 for the 6GB RAM variant and Rs 37,999 for the 8GB one.
The OnePlus 5 features an all-aluminium unibody, the design of which is largely inspired by Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus. However, the corners are slightly curved here for an easier grip. Another feature OnePlus proudly says they’ve borrowed is the array of two camera lenses on the rear. The dual camera system is made up of a 16-megapixel f/1.7 sensor along with a 20-megapixel telephoto lens. This arrangement allows 2x lossless zoom and of course, the creation of natural depth of field effects. The front camera is still a 16-megapixel which should be fine.
As far as the specifications are concerned, the OnePlus 5 comes with a 5.5-inch FHD AMOLED panel protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Underneath, it’s powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor, 6/8 gigs of RAM, 64/128 GB of UFS 2.1 internal memory which is not expandable, Adreno 540 GPU and a non-removable 3,300mAh battery with Dash Charging. The fingerprint scanner is still located under the home button and OnePlus’ signature alert slider is present as well.
The OnePlus 5 runs on the company’s own OxygenOS which is based on Android Nougat (7.1.1). This time around, OnePlus has added a couple of new features including expanded screenshots and a reading mode that automatically adjusts the screen’s brightness and color temperature according to the room’s ambiance. The phone comes with the usual bevy of connectivity options including 4G VoLTE, Dual SIM, Bluetooth 5.0, and NFC. It also supports OxygenOS Quick Pay that replaces Google Now shortcut and uses NFC to make PayTM payments.
OnePlus 5 will be available on Amazon for a price of Rs 32,999 and Rs 32,799 for the 6/8GB variants respectively. Early access sales begin today at 4.30PM, open sales from this month’s 27th at midnight and you can buy it from this link. While the handset does feature premium specifications loaded to the brim, relatively older flagships such as the iPhone 7 and LG G6 are selling at a much lower price tags now. Hence, it will interesting to see whether OnePlus is capable enough to take on the big guns.
