One of the most awaited smartphones of the year, the OnePlus 6 is all set to be unveiled next week in London. The China-based phone maker has been, like it does before nearly every launch, gradually revealing a handful of tidbits about its 2018 flagship. Today, it took the wraps off another one. The OnePlus 6 will be one of the first phones outside of Google’s own Pixel line to be compatible with a beta build of Android P.

OnePlus will be making the early build available for the OnePlus 6 owners who are interested in trying it out. The phone, however, I’m assuming, will come preloaded with a stable version of Android 8.1 with the company’s own OxygenOS skin on top. Apart from that, OnePlus did not specify any details regarding the next update of OxygenOS itself. This move partially seems like damage control for OnePlus’ history with software updates as of late.

List of Smartphones Supporting Android P beta

In addition to OnePlus 6, Google has announced that the Android P beta will be made available on other phones. Here is the complete list:

  • OnePlus 6
  • Google Pixel 2/XL
  • Sony Xperia XZ2
  • Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S
  • Nokia 7 Plus
  • Oppo R15 Pro
  • Vivo X21/UD
  • Essential PH‑1
  • Google Pixel/XL

Commenting further on the announcement, Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus, stated, “By empowering and trusting in our community we learned users want a fast, smooth, and clean user experience – something we call ‘burden-less.’ Beyond building the best possible Android phone, we work to provide more value to users by ensuring the smartphone experience is not dominated by bloatware and intrusive notifications. The creation of Team FSE (fast, smooth, efficient) helps create a recurring theme across all user reviews of OnePlus phone experiences as fast and smooth.”

To recap, OnePlus has already officially confirmed a few other specifications of the OnePlus 6 including the fact that it will have a notch-equipped screen. In addition to that, the phone will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip and will have a 256GB variant available as well. The phone’s brand ambassador, Mr. Amitabh Bacchan, yesterday also accidentally tweeted an image which showcased a redesigned exterior and its color options. The OnePlus 6 will be launched on this month’s 16th and in India, 17th.
