Huawei Nova 6 and Nova 6 5G with Kirin 990 and Hole-Punch Display Announced
Huawei has just announced the Nova 6 series at an event in China. The series includes two new smartphones: Nova 6 and Nova 6 5G. Some of the highlights of these phones include the Kirin 990 processor, 40MP triple rear cameras, hole-punch display with dual facing-cameras, and side-mounted fingerprint scanner. Besides the Nova 6 and Nova 6 5G, Huawei has also announced a third-smartphone, called the Nova 6 SE, which is priced lower than the other two models.
Huawei Nova 6 and Nova 6 5G: Design and Display
Both, Huawei Nova 6 and Nova 6 5G feature a glass back design in the rear, and have the same 6.57-inch Full HD+ LCD display with a 2400 × 1080 pixels screen resolution, 96% NTSC color gamut, and a 2.5D curved glass on top. The display does not come with a notch, and instead, has a hole-punch that houses the dual front-facing camera setup with a primary and an ultra-wide sensor. Both Nova 6 and Nova 6 5G come in four color options: Black, Blue, Violet, and Red.
Huawei Nova 6 and Nova 6 5G: Performance
At its core, the Nova 6 and Nova 6 5G both have Huawei’s Kirin 990 processor with ARM Mali 676 GPU running at their core, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 128GB / 256GB of internal storage. To power everything, the Nova 6 includes a 4100mAh battery, whereas, the Nova 6 5G has a slightly bigger 4200mAh battery, but with support for 40W fast charging. Besides this, the Nova 6 5G variant includes the Balong 5000 5G modem for NSA & SA 5G dual-mode support.
As for other hardware specifications, both smartphones come with USB Type-C, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, NFC, WiFi 802.11ac, and Bluetooth 5.1. On the software front, the Nova 6 series smartphones run on EMUI 10.0.1 based on Android 10 out of the box.
Huawei Nova 6 and Nova 6 5G: Camera
For optics, the Nova 6 and Nova 6 come with the same triple-camera setup, which includes a 40MP primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP secondary 120° ultra-wide-angle lens with f/2.4 aperture, and a third 8MP telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture 3x optical zoom, AF, and OIS. Towards the front, the phone has a hole-punch display that houses the dual front-facing cameras. The setup includes a 32MP primary sensor with f/2.0 aperture and an 8MP 105° ultra-wide sensor with f/2.2 aperture.
Huawei Nova 6 and Nova 6 5G: Pricing and Availability
The Huawei Nova 6 (4G) comes in one configuration: 8GB + 128GB, and is priced at 3199 CNY (~ USD 454 / INR 32, 395). On the other hand, the Nova 6 5G comes in two configurations: 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB, priced at 3799 CNY (~ USD 539 / INR 38, 471) and 4199 CNY (~ USD 596 / INR 42, 521), respectively. As for availability, the phones are available for pre-order starting today and will go on sale in China starting December 12.
