Xiaomi has today announced a new affordable smartphone in its Redmi lineup, the Redmi 9 Prime. Essentially, the phone is same as the Redmi 9 (global variant) launched in June. Some of the highlights of the device include a Full-HD+ display, a MediaTek Helio G80 SoC, a 5020mAh battery, and quad-rear cameras, among others. Here’s a look a the specifications of the device in detail.
Redmi 9 Prime: Design and Display
In terms of design, the Redmi 9 comes with a plastic finish back with a 3D unibody design that claims to offer better grip and protection against fingerprint smudges. Xiaomi calls it the Aura 360 design, and it features a circular ring (wit concentric circles) around the rear camera array. It has a quad-camera array on the back, arranged vertically, with a fingerprint scanner right below the camera module. Redmi 9 comes in four colors: Space Blue, Mint Green, Sunrise Flare, and Matte Black.
Towards the front, the device features a 6.53-inch dot drop display, which has a dot-style notch to house the front-facing camera. The display offers a Full-HD+ screen resolution with a 394ppi pixel density. Moreover, it also provides Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top and includes features such as Reading Mode 2.0, Sunlight Mode, etc.
Redmi 9 Prime: Performance
Under the hood, the Redmi 9 is powered by MediaTek Helio G80, which is an octa-core chipset based on the 12nm process with up to 2.0GHz clock speeds, and a Mali-G52 GPU for graphics processing. It offers 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB / 128GB of onboard storage (expandable up to 512GB with microSD card). For powering the internals, the device includes a 5020mAh battery with 18W fast charging support (10W charger bundled-in). The company claims the battery offers more than 2 days of battery life on a single charge.
For connectivity, the Redmi 9 Prime comes with dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and Bluetooth 5.0. The phone has a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack, IR Blaster, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for authentication.
Redmi 9 Prime: Camera
In the camera department, the Redmi 9 sports a quad-camera setup on the rear, with an LED flash. The setup includes a 13MP (f/.2) primary sensor, accompanied by an 8MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle lens with 118° FoV, a 5MP (f/2.4) macro lens, and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth sensor. Moving to the front, the device has a single 8MP (f/2.0) camera for selfies and face unlock.
Redmi 9 Prime: Pricing and Availability
The Redmi 9 Prime comes in two configurations: 4GB + 64GB and 4GB + 128GB, priced at Rs 9,999 and Rs 11,999, respectively. It will be available starting August 6 during Prime Day Sale on Amazon India. And soon, across Mi Home, Mi Studio, and offline retailers.
