We’re seeing many new smartphones and tablets being announced lately, but most of them don’t come packing the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system – Android 5.0 Lollipop. In some situations, OEMs mention a ‘guaranteed upgrade’, but unfortunately, that could last for a few good months. So it’s great to see a company who is launching a new device, at a great price, and featuring the latest version of Android.

Intex is breaking the ice in India with the country’s first Lollipop smartphone by Indian brand. The star is Aqua Star L which will sell for Rs. 6990 exclusively on Snapdeal. Slightly more than $100 for a new handset delivering Android Lollipop isn’t that bad, as a matter of fact. However, it’s worth pointing out that Xolo recently started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop updates for two of its smartphones in India, so Inte’x new handset has exclusivity when it comes to out-of-box availability. Now let’s have a look at what’s under the hood:

  • 5-inch FWVGA display intex aqua l star
  • 1.3GHz quad-core processor
  • 1GB of RAM
  • Android 5.0 Lollipop
  • 8GB of internal storage with microSD card slot, expandable up to 32GB
  • 2000 mAh battery
  • dual-SIM support, 3G
  • 8MP rear camera and 2MP front shooter

Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, Mobile Business Head at Intex Technologies, shared his input:

“Our newest offering in the Aqua collection, the Aqua Star L proves Intex’s dedication to remain a technology supernal. It is absolutely imperative to run along with the technological advancements to stay in a competitive environment.”

The handset is available in black and white and Indian customers will be able to purchase it exclusively on Snapdeal.com from Monday. So, by the looks of it, this is an interesting entry in the ever growing affordable mobile market in India.
