HTC, which had vanished from the Indian smartphone market sometime back has made a return with a brand new smartphone, the HTC Wildfire X. It looks like a company called “InOne Smart Technology” holds the brand licensing for HTC in India and is responsible for this revival of the Taiwanese brand in the fastest-growing smartphone market. While we await the official details around the licensing, it seems like the arrangement is similar to what BlackBerry has done with Optiemus India.
Coming back to the phone, the HTC Wildfire X will come in two variants – 3GB RAM+32GB storage and 4GB RAM+128GB storage. The phone is powered by MediaTek’s Helio P22 SoC which we have seen in few other budget smartphones earlier this year. The Wildfire X comes with 6.22-inch HD+ IPS waterdrop display with 88.8% screen-to-body ratio. As for the cameras, it has a triple camera setup with 12MP main camera (1.25 μm), an 8 MP telephoto lens (8x hybrid zoom) and a 5MP depth sensor. On the front, it houses an 8MP selfie camera inside the waterdrop notch.
The phone runs on Android 9 Pie but we aren’t sure if it has Sense UI or Stock Android experience. There is a 3300mAh battery running the show on HTC Wildfire X which supports 10W charging and has a USB Type-C port. It has a hybrid SIM slot which supports expandable storage up to 256GB.
The Wildfire X comes with an interesting feature called “MyBuddy” which lets users use their smartphone as a personal security tool. This is like an extension of ‘SoS’ feature mandated by the Government of India. MyBuddy allows users to pull out the device from the shell to trigger a loud alarm, send live location information to friends and family, and record and transmit audio/video of surroundings in real-time.
HTC Wildfire X: Price, Availability and Offers
As we mentioned earlier, the HTC Wildfire X will come in two variants – 3GB RAM+32GB storage which has been priced at Rs 9,999 and 4GB RAM+128GB storage which has been priced at Rs 12,999. The phone will go on sale starting August 22, 2019, exclusively on Flipkart. Wildfire X comes only one one color variant: sapphire blue.
InOne has teamed up with Vodafone for the launch offers. Vodafone is offering Rs 3,750 in the form of coupons to both existing and new customers. Vodafone users will also get additional 0.5GB data per day for 18 months.
InOne is clearly hoping to utilize the HTC brand value to sell the smartphones in India, but the Wildfire X is looking at a rather steep competition in this price segment which is dominated by the likes of Xiaomi, Realme, Samsung and Asus.
