Asus forayed into gaming-smartphone space with the launch of the first ROG phone back in 2018. A year later, it introduced a sequel to the original smartphone, and now, building on its success and looking at the growing market for gaming smartphones, the company has today announced its latest offering for the same, the ROG Phone 3. Asus says, with the new device, it is building on everything that the users relished with the previous models and took into consideration five distinct points to offer an improved experience. What are these added changes, let’s dive in to find out in detail.

Asus ROG Phone 3: Design and Display

In terms of design, the ROG Phone 3 follows a similar design language as its predecessor, with a slightly bold and futuristic design, which as per the company, offers the device a much cleaner look. The device retains the illuminated ROG logo, and it also preserves the rounded curves for a better grip along with the front-firing speakers. Moreover, it also has a Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3 protection on the rear.

Towards the front, there is a 6.59-inch display with a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display provides support for 10 bit HDR10+ and covers 113% of DCI-P3 color gamut. It provides a 144Hz refresh rate and a 270Hz touch sampling rate, which is slightly higher than the ROG Phone 2 that features a 120Hz refresh rate display. Besides, to keep the display protected, the device comes with Gorilla Glass 6 protection on top.

Under the hood, the Asus ROG Phone 3 runs on the latest Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset, which is an octa-core processor built on the 7nm process, accompanied by the Adreno 650 GPU for graphics processing. Assisting the processor is 8GB / 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB / 256GB of UFS3.1 storage. To power the internals, the device includes a mammoth 6000mAh battery, with support for 30W QC3.0 / PD3.0 fast charging.

For connectivity, the ROG Phone 3 comes with support for 5G, dual 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax, Bluetooth 5.1 (with support for SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive, aptX TWS+, and LDAC), and NFC. As for other hardware specifications, the device includes dual front-facing speakers, an in-display fingerprint scanner for authentication, and a USB Type-C port. On the software front, it runs on ROG UI based on Android 10, out of the box. In addition, since the device’s USP is that it is gaming-oriented, there are a bunch of gaming-focused features that it has to offer.

To improve the gaming experience, the device is equipped with the 3rd-Gen GameCool system with 6X larger heatsink and redesigned 3D vapor chamber for better heat dissipation. It device features touch-sensitive controls with the AirTrigger 3 to increase functionality and offer better haptic feedback.

In the camera department, the ROG Phone 3 sports a triple camera array on the rear, with an LED flash. The triple setup includes a 64MP (f/1.8) Sony IMX686 primary sensor, along with a 13MP (f/2.4) ultra-wide-angle sensor with 125 ̊ FoV, and a 5MP (f/2.0) macro lens. On the front, the device has a 24MP (f/2.0) sensor for selfies.

Asus ROG Phone 3: Pricing and Availability

The Asus ROG Phone 3 comes in two configurations: 12GB + 512GB and 16GB + 512GB, priced at €999 and €1099, respectively. Moreover, there is also the ROG Phone 3 Strix Edition, which comes in 8GB + 256GB configuration, and is priced at €799.

As for India, the phone comes in two configurations: 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 256GB, which are priced at Rs 49,999 and Rs 57,999, respectively. It will be available on Flipkart starting August 6.
