Google has added a handful of new features to the Indian version of Maps (which was launched globally long back). The features are mostly aimed at easing the efforts of the users when it comes to searching and sharing addresses. Google is blending the area codes and local codes along with other information and offering a Plus Code that is unique for every geographical area. The Google Plus code can be used to broadcast location on Social Media and also share it with friends and family. In this segment, let us learn how we can use the Google Map Plus codes,
Generating Google Maps Plus Codes
The Plus Codes kind of work is akin to the location-sharing feature. Before this, Google Maps allowed users to share locations by transmitting GPS coordinates. In a bid to simplify and make this more efficient, Google now offers the Plus Codes. The feature is available for both Android and iOS. The best part of the Plus Codes is that you don’t need to remember the entire address or even the coordinates. Instead, all one needs to do is jot down (or rather paste it on a notepad) the Plus Code.
- Open Google Maps on your iOS or Android Device
- Touch and hold the place to drop a pin on Google Maps
- Tap on the Address or the description of the place
- Scroll down to the bottom and find the plus code (as shown in the screenshot)
- Copy the Plus Code with a single tap, and now you can share it.
In my experience, it is even better than using an actual address. One can also use a Plus Code for a town or city.
How to Search addresses/locations using Google Map Codes
- Searching for an address using Plus Codes on Google Maps is pretty simple. All you need to do is copy the Plus Code and enter the same in the Google Maps Search Bar.
- Tap search, and the Map will automatically show you the exact address as per the Plus Code.
- Alternatively, you can also enter the Plus Codes in the search bar, and the location will be shown in the Google Search results.
How to add a missing address on Google Maps
- Open Google Maps on your iOS or Android Device
- Touch and hold the place to drop a pin on Google Maps
- Tap on the Address or the description of the place
- Tap on the “Add a Missing Place” option
- Enter the required details and submit the same
Please note that Google will publish the place only after verification. This may take some time, and the approval is subject to Google’s policies.
