Xiaomi has today officially launched the Redmi Y3 smartphone in India. Following a series of leaks and teases over the past few days, the hype and the expectations of people have been really high. And now, with the device out in public, it would be interesting to see how people receive it and whether it manages to make a mark in the segment. The highlights of the device include a 32MP selfie shooter on the front, which the company denotes, ’32MPSuperSelfie’, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor.
Design and Looks
The Redmi Y3 follows a new design philosophy – Aura Prism Design – that is built upon the previous generation Aura Design, introduced with the Redmi Note 7 series. Apart from giving the device an appealing look, the company has also added a P2i nano-coating to give it an extra layer of protection against water spills. With the Aura Prism Design, the Redmi Y3 comes in Prime Black, Bold Red, and Elegant Blue colours.
On the front of the device, the Redmi Y3 features a 6.26-inch Dot Notch HD+ display with a screen resolution of 1520 x 720 pixels, 19:9 aspect ratio, 2.5D curved glass, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top.
In terms of performance, the Redmi Y3 comes equipped with a 14nm-based 1.8GHz Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 processor with Adreno 506 GPU, paired with 3GB or 4GB of RAM, and 32GB or 64GB of internal storage (expandable up to 512GB using a microSD card). It has a huge 4000mAh battery and runs on MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie.
Coming to the most highlighting feature of the device, camera, the Redmi Y3 sports a dual rear camera setup with a 12MP primary sensor with f/2.2 aperture and a 2MP secondary sensor for depth sensing. The rear camera also comes equipped with PDAF, 33 AI scene detection modes, EIS, dual-LED flash, and the ability to record FHD 1080p videos at 60fps. On the front, it has a 32MP camera with EIS, palm shutter, auto HDR, and AI portrait mode. The front-facing camera is capable of recording FHD 1080p videos at 30fps. Additionally, the camera gets Google Lens integration built-in, which can be used to identify objects in the surrounding.
Talking about other hardware specifications of the device, the Redmi Y3 comes with a fingerprint scanner, mounted on the rear of the device and AI Face Unlock for authentication, along with an IR blaster. For connectivity, it has Bluetooth 4.2, Dual SIM with a dedicated microSD card slot, and Dual 4G, Dual VoLTE support.

The Redmi Y3 comes in three colour options: Prime Black, Bold Red, and Elegant Blue. And two RAM and internal storage configurations: 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB, priced at Rs 9,999 and Rs 11,999 respectively. It will go on sale in India starting April 30 at 12 Noon on Amazon, Mi.com, and Mi Store.
