At its 43rd Annual General Meeting (RIL-AGM) today, which is being held virtually this time around due to the coronavirus pandemic, Reliance had a host of announcements to make across its different products and services offerings. Some of these announcements include updates on the latest investment, stride towards 5G, and mixed-reality services (Jio Glass) to name a few. One of the most interesting announcements at this year’s AGM is the introduction of Jio tv+, which offers a unified platform for accessing content across various popular over-the-top (OTT) platforms. Here’s what we know about Jio tv+.
Last year, Reliance announced two new offerings: Jio Fiber and Jio Set-Top box. On the one hand, you have Jio Fiber, a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) internet broadband service that promises gigabit speeds, has seen an increase in adoption across the country, and is still gaining new customers at a rapid pace. While on the other, there is Jio Set-Top Box, which is a media streaming player that offers content from some of the popular OTT platforms in the world.
Building upon the same, the company is bringing a new service, Jio tv+, that aims to simplify content browsing/finding experience. In a nutshell, Jio tv+ is a content aggregator that curates all the content from some of the top OTT platforms. These platforms include the likes of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar, Voot, SonyLiv, Zee5, JioCinema, JioSaavn, and YouTube, to name a few. The platform organizes the content across all the major platforms based on categories to make discovery easier. Moreover, in addition to traditional search, it also integrates voice search that works across different genres, actors, producers, and the likes.
Furthermore, besides curating content from across 12 OTT platforms into one, another crucial advantage that Jio tv+ provides is the ‘single click’ (Single Sign-On) feature, which takes away the need to log in to 12 different platforms individually, and instead, makes the process of signing-in simple with just a click. Thus, offering a convenient way to access content from all platforms in one place without undergoing any hassle.
