WhatsApp Is Now Finally Letting You Reserve Your Username

Whatsapp user names

The long-awaited usernames on WhatsApp are currently rolling out to users. Now you can reserve unique usernames on the platform and use them as your account identity on WhatsApp instead of sharing your number with others.

Usernames work similarly to how you would expect them to work in Telegram. Instead of a phone number, you can create a new, unique username and use it for your WhatsApp account. However, since WhatsApp already has phone numbers, this will only apply to new users because existing users already have your phone number, and your number will be visible to them anyway.

The Big Picture:
The biggest challenge for WhatsApp is satisfying users with their usernames, since they already have Instagram and Facebook usernames. I don’t think this will be a big deal for them, but WhatsApp has 3 billion users, and it will be challenging for them to satisfy users by giving them usernames they wanted.

Unlike Instagram or Facebook, there is no search index option where users can search for usernames and find WhatsApp users. Others need the exact username to find your account on WhatsApp. Also, WhatsApp says they have reserved popular people’s usernames already, so you only get to choose different names.

WhatsApp usernames are rolling out later this year, but Meta is allowing you to reserve your own unique name on the platform right now. You can go to Settings and then Account, where you will see a new username option. Tap on it, and from there, you can set your own username. For more security, WhatsApp is also adding a unique code that you can create alongside the username. If you enable it, others will have to know this code to message you on WhatsApp. Remember that if you use the same username as on Instagram or Facebook, it will make it very easy for people to find you. For enhanced privacy, we highly recommend that you create a code along with your username.

Leaked iPhone 18 Pro Photos Reportedly Appeared on the Dark Web After a Tata Data Breach

iPhone 18 Pro image

Remember that a few days ago, we reported that the Tata data breach in India exposed internal documents from Apple and Tesla. Now, according to the latest report by Reuters, leaked Apple files are now available on the dark web. The leaked files reveal the drop test details of the upcoming iPhone 18 series, and also the images. Since this is a data breach, we are not sharing the images here. But you can expect the design to be very similar to the iPhone 18 Pro designs that have leaked in the past. You can get more details of the upcoming iPhone 18 series here.

The Big Picture:
Apple is going to announce the iPhone 18 series in September, possibly on September 9th.

Tata Electronics, which manufactures some of the iPhone models here in India, has recently confirmed the data breach. Since the iPhone is closer to launch, there will be no change in the design. However, according to industry insights, Apple is concerned about this data breach and images being circulated on the dark web. Currently, Apple hasn’t issued any direct statement, nor do we have the full details of what exact data has been leaked so far.

Apple Is Reportedly Planning to Use Next-Generation OLED Panels with a Wider Color Gamut in Future Devices

Apple iPad screen OLED

Apple is looking to upgrade its OLED panels for future devices, including Macs, iPads, and other devices. According to the latest report, the updated OLED panels are expected to cover 95% of the BT.2020 color standard.

BT.2020 is a wider color standard than DCI-P3. Apple’s current displays already support P3 wide color, but BT.2020 can cover a broader range of visible colors. Apple already uses OLED panels for the iPad Pros, and now it is expected to launch a new MacBook in 2026 or 2027 with a new OLED panel. And later, this upgraded OLED panel is also expected to be featured on other Apple products, including the iPad, Mac, and iMac models.

Google Is Expanding Personalized Image Creation in the Gemini App to All Eligible Users in the U.S

Google is rolling out personalized image generation using its Nano Banana model in the Google Gemini app for all users in the US for free. Now, Gemini can connect your existing Google services and use your data to create personalized images without you explicitly mentioning characteristics in the prompts. While this can be useful, it also comes with privacy concerns, as your data might be used to train Google services.

The Big Picture:
This is a big privacy concern when you know what actually happens. Currently, this is an opt-in feature where you have an option to connect or disconnect your Google apps to Gemini and allow it to read your data to create personalized images. If you connect the app and personalization is turned on, Google will use your data across the apps, including Google Photos, YouTube, Google Workspace, Search services, and Contacts in supported cases, Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Keep, Tasks, Chat, and Meet, and much more.

Your data can also be used to train Google’s services and its AI models. So, before enabling this feature, understand the consequences of it. If you want to turn it off, open the Gemini app and go to settings. From here, tap on ‘Personal intelligence,’ scroll down, and tap on ‘Connected apps.’ Now, disconnect all the apps you don’t want Google to use.

OpenAI’s First Hardware Product Might Be a Mechanical Keyboard for Codex

OpenAI has started teasing a hardware product in partnership with Work Louder. It is expected to be a mechanical keyboard or a dedicated keyboard made exclusively for the OpenAI Codex for developers. The teaser says the device is coming on July 15, 2026. We should see what OpenAI has in store and also remember that this project is very different from OpenAI’s hardware products in partnership with Jony Ive.

OpenAI is working on a dedicated hardware product with Jony Ive. Neither the companies nor OpenAI has shared details on this upcoming product, but we should know more very soon in the coming days.

OpenClaw Gets a Dedicated Android and iOS App

Openclaw mobile app

OpenClaw, once the internet’s favorite personal agent, now also has dedicated apps on Android and iPhone. The new app isn’t a standalone that can run on Android and iPhone; it just acts as a companion for your existing OpenClaw gateway, which runs on your Mac or Windows or on a dedicated server.

For those who are not aware, OpenClaw was acquired by OpenAI, but it still functions as a standalone. Since it is a mobile app, it has its own perks, including voice input. OpenClaw mentions that all requests need permission to run in the AI-agentic tasks.

Apps and Software

Cursor Has Launched a Native iOS App

After being acquired by SpaceX AI recently, Cursor now announces a dedicated iOS app to run AI agents directly from your mobile. The app is currently available in beta, and it is available only for Cursor paid users. It requires iOS 26 or later to run on your iPhone.

The Big Picture:
Mobile apps are the next big thing in the AI coding industry. Almost everyone is now launching a dedicated mobile app, so you don’t have to be in front of the computer every time. Previously, many apps were only used as a remote control where the actual task ran on the computer, and you could only trigger or stop processes from your mobile.

However, many apps (including Cursor) now support cloud integration. You can now directly assign and run tasks from your mobile without requiring your computer to be open all the time, as the tasks will run in the cloud. If you already use Cursor, this can be useful if you are often away from your computer and want to delegate important tasks while you are on mobile.

Since it is already available for the paid plan, it uses the same resources your current plan has. Cursor is also offering a discount for the launch. Cursor is also offering 75% off Composer 2.5 runs in the mobile app until July 5, 2026, as part of the launch push.
