Amazon has launched a dedicated online store on its website for refurbished phones and used mobile phones. “Refurbished products undergo professional testing and restoration (if required) to meet brand specifications and will come in sealed brand packaging with all set of accessories.” However, this is not the first time that someone has set up online store for selling refurbished devices and companies like Greendust have been doing it for quite some time. That said this is the first instance of a traditional e-commerce player foraying into refurbished and used handsets business.

The disclaimer by Amazon further details that used products may have been in possession of other customers and are being sold in three tiers, Like new, Good and acceptable. Like New phone is the one devoid of any scratches and works perfectly while Good might have some scratch but will still work perfectly. The Acceptable condition is one where in the phone will work properly but might have dents or a cracked screen (I wonder who would want to buy this.)

As with all the other players will also be offering a 6-months manufacturer warranty on the refurbished products. The caveat, however, is that the used products may or may not be covered under warranty, the refurbished products will be fulfilled by Amazon and will be covered under the A to Z guarantee.

Furthermore, Amazon also assures buyers that the shipping timeless will be similar to new product’s and the orders will be fulfilled by the sellers. That said it is advised to compare the prices of new devices with the refurbished ones since we didn’t find much of a difference between the two. That said, it takes some effort to spot a worthwhile deal and also it would be helpful if you read the terms and conditions in detail.
