Xiaomi Announces the Redmi 6 Series in India for a Starting Price of Rs 5,999

Gearing up against the growing competition in the entry-level segment, Xiaomi has today refreshed its Redmi 5 line of phones in India. Under the Redmi 6 series, the company has announced three new phones in the country — the Redmi 6A, Redmi 6, and the Redmi 6 Pro. All of them have a tall screen, a familiar aluminum exterior, Android 8.1 Oreo with MIUI, and a notch too in the case of the highest end variant, the Redmi 6 Pro.

The most affordable of them all, the Redmi 6A comes with a 5.45-inch LCD screen, an aspect ratio of 18:9 and a resolution of HD+. There’s a MediaTek quad-core chipset underneath coupled with 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage which can be expanded through a dedicated MicroSD card slot, and a 3000mAh battery. On the rear, you will find a 13-megapixel f/2.2 lens and for selfies, the Redmi 6A offers a 5-megapixel snapper on the front. To make up for the absence of a traditional fingerprint reader, Xiaomi has bundled a software-based face unlock feature as well. It will be available in four color options — Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Blue.

The Xiaomi Redmi 6A is priced at Rs 5,999 for the 2GB, 16GB variant and Rs 6,999 for 32GB onboard storage. It will go on sale starting from 19th September at noon on Amazon, Xiaomi’s own Mi store, Mi Homes, and other offline partners.

The Redmi 6 features the same 5.45-inch HD+ display but has a much superior hardware under the hood and better cameras. For starters, it’s powered by a MediaTek octa-core chip, 3GB of RAM, 32 or 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded via a dedicated MicroSD card slot, and a 3000mAh battery. The camera arrangement houses two sensors on the rear — a primary 12-megapixel f/2.2 lens and another 5-megapixel camera for depth-sensing. The Redmi 6 does have a fingerprint scanner on the back, unlike the Redmi 6A.

The Redmi 6 Pro justifies its Pro moniker with a more premium component in a handful of aspects. To begin with, it comes with a larger and sharper 5.84-inch 1080p notch-equipped screen and Xiaomi’s favorite Snapdragon 625 octa-core chipset. There’s 3 or 4GB of RAM, 32 or 64GB of onboard storage which can be expanded, and a beefier 4000mAh battery. As for the cameras, they’re identical to the Redmi 6 — a 12MP+5MP setup on the rear and a 5-megapixel selfie camera inside the notch on the front.

The Xiaomi Redmi 6 Pro is priced at Rs 10,999 for the 3GB, 32GB variant and Rs 12,999 for 4GB, 64GB onboard storage. It will go on sale starting from 11th September at noon on Amazon, Xiaomi’s own Mi store, Mi Homes, and other offline partners.
