At an event today in China, Xiaomi took wraps off the all-new Mi CC9 Pro and Mi TV 5 series. In addition to the two products, the company also launched a smartwatch, the Mi Watch, which marks its foray into the smartwatch segment. The watch had already been teased a few days earlier, which hinted towards a much similar design to that of the Apple Watch. Besides its design, the other highlight of the Mi Watch is the added support for eSIM, which allows it to be used independently of the device it is connected with.
Xiaomi Mi Watch: Design and Display
The Mi Watch comes with a square form factor design with a bezel-less display and a digital crown on the side, much like the Apple Watch. It comes with a ceramic back with an aluminum alloy middle frame all around, and is available in three color options: Grey, White, and Navy Blue. Coming to the front, the watch features a 1.78-inch curved AMOLED display with a 326ppi pixel density.
Xiaomi Mi Watch: Performance
At its core, the Mi Watch is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 3100 4G processor (first smartwatch in the world with this chipset), with a 570mAh battery that promises to offer up to 36 hours of battery life. As mentioned above, the watch comes with eSIM support, which allows it to be used as an independent device to take calls, built-in WiFi to access the internet, and much more. Furthermore, the watch also includes Bluetooth, NFC, GPS, and a built-in microphone.
On the software front, Xiaomi has extended MIUI to watches and introduced ‘MIUI for Watch’. The Mi Watch comes with a built-in ‘dial market’ that claims to offer over 100 dial themes (or watch faces), with more coming soon. It also supports third-party watchfaces which can be downloaded. Additionally, the software also offers support for the inbuilt voice assistant (Xiao AI) to make interactions easier and fun. It also provides up to 10 different health and sports modes to offer users with the ability to track their activities like running, cycling, swimming, and more.
Mi Watch: Pricing and Availability
The Mi Watch (standard edition) is priced at 1299 yuan (~USD 185 / INR 13,108). On the other hand, a premium edition Mi Watch with sapphire glass and stainless steel band costs 1999 yuan (~USD 285 / INR 20,171). As for its availability, the standard edition Mi Watch will be available in China starting November 11, whereas, the premium edition model is expected to be available sometime next month.
