There is no easy way to reset YouTube homepage video recommendations. You need to do most of the things mentioned below (if not everything) to get to a clear and fresh start on YouTube.

Mute Channel Recommendations

If you are seeing videos from channels that you do not like, or content that you do not want to see, on the YouTube homepage, click on the three-dot icon beside the respective video and select Don’t recommend channel.

You will never see videos from that particular channel. You may still see the content related to the videos on the muted channel.

Use Not Interested Feature

YouTube has a Not interested feature you can use on any video on the homepage. You can use the Not Interested button on videos and playlists. Click on the three-dot icon beside a video or a playlist and select Not interested.

Unsubscribe Channels

If you have subscribed to a channel in the past and you no longer like their content, you can first set Don’t recommend channel and then unsubscribe to the channel. To unsubscribe to the channel, go to the channel home page and click on the Unsubscribe button, on both web browser and app.

Alternatively, you can click on the hamburger menu beside the YouTube logo, and click on All subscriptions under the Subscription menu. Click the Subscribed button and select Unsubscribe.

On the YouTube app, tap on the Subscriptions tab. On the subscriptions page, if you have many subscribed channels, scroll the channels to the left to see the All button. Tap on it.

Then, tap on the subscription beside the channel you want to unsubscribe to. A pop-up will appear at the bottom. Select Unsubscribe to remove the channel from your subscriptions.

Clear Watch History

So, clearing your entire watch history in a way resets the homepage and tables you to fill the homepage with what you like to watch. Remember that you cannot revert once you have cleared the watch history. Whatever you have watched will be gone forever.

Remove Likes

What you like is monitored by the algorithms and your homepage is filled with video recommendations based on them. If you have thousands of liked videos and you cannot remove likes manually, there is another way to do it. Visit the YouTube history page on the Google My Activity website. Click on the Interactions tab and select Videos likes and dislikes.

Use the “New to you” Tab

At the top of your YouTube homepage recommendations, we find many tabs that categorize videos. They are all based on our watch history. Click the New to you button that you see there. It shows the videos that you do not find on your homepage. Click on videos that you find interesting from the New to you section and watch them. It impacts the current YouTube homepage recommendations, and they get updated to something better than the existing ones.

Whenever you find your YouTube homepage recommendations boring or redundant, just head to the New to you section and watch something interesting.

Use the Subscriptions Tab
