ChatGPT‘s new voice mode is rolling out to some users. The biggest update is that it’s now bidirectional; it can listen and speak at the same time as you speak. You can check out the demo below.

Currently, there is no information about this new voice mode, whether it is powered by GPT 5.5 or 5.6. I checked it out and haven’t received it yet, and based on the comments under these tweets, most users haven’t received it either.

Google Says Android Developer Verification Is Still on Track for Its First Rollout Later This Year

Google’s Android Developer Verification

Google offers more details of its Android Developer Verification Program. The initial launch starts on September 30, 2026, in Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. Google says millions of apps are already verified through this program

The Big Picture:
For those who are not aware, Google has announced the Android Developer Verification Program. Under this program, only verified apps can be installed on Android devices, which restricts the installation of apps from third-party sources. Google says this move is to combat fake apps and also increase the privacy and security of Android applications.

Android is known to be open source, and users are free to download any app from any third-party source. But from September 30, 2026, that is going to change.

Initially, Google is going to roll out this program in four countries, including Brazil, Indonesia, Singapore, and Thailand. Afterward, it will expand to even more countries based on the feedback. Once implemented, developers need to verify their apps through the Google verification program to distribute them on Android.

Devices running on Android 8 or later will automatically get a new software update, where Google will install a new verification system in the background that automatically checks if the app is verified. If it detects that the app is unverified, it automatically blocks it from installing unless the developer verifies it. Google is also allowing them to share their apps with a limited number of devices for developers and students. You can see the full set of rules here.

Smartphone News

Nothing Has Canceled This Year’s New CMF Phone Because of Rising RAM Prices

Due to the increase in RAM prices, Nothing’s sub-brand CMF has decided not to launch any smartphone this year. Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis said CMF was working on a successor to the CMF Phone 2 Pro. However, because of the rising memory cost resulting in an increase in the smartphone price, Nothing decided not to launch the smartphone at all.

The Big Picture:
Previously, Carl Pei (Nothing CEO) voiced his opinion on rising memory prices, noting that smartphones will become more expensive. He also mentioned that in the future, there won’t be any massive discounts like the ones we used to get before. I think Nothing isn’t only this brand that is being affected.

Almost every smartphone brand has increased the prices of its existing models, and they are also launching new smartphones at higher prices than they used to. Even Apple is not immune to this, and recently Tim Cook (Apple’s current CEO) has announced that a price increase might be coming soon. And also, Nothing’s decision not to launch a smartphone isn’t surprising for us. At least, Nothing is a brand that chases quantity; they also skipped a flagship smartphone this year.

We welcome the fact that the brand is focusing on quality over quantity. However, we don’t want RAM increases and massive production costs to be the reason for brands not launching smartphones. We are not sure how long this will continue. Moreover, price increases are also affecting smartphone sales, as global smartphone shipments have already decreased by 8%.

Global Smartwatch Shipments Grew 4% YoY in Q1 2026

Apple led the global smartwatch market with a 23% shipment share, Huawei ranked second with 17% market share and 12% YoY growth, Xiaomi ranked third with 10% market share and 9% YoY growth, and Samsung fell to fifth place with 5% market share.

Here is a breakdown of the global smartphone market share in more detail:

Global Smartwatch Market

We also wanted to share our insight on the current global smartphone trend. While the numbers seem to be stable, we believe that many people are now preferring fitness bands over smartwatches, especially those who care seriously about their health.

This is the reason Google Fitbit is a pretty big success; it could also be due to the high cost of a WHOOP subscription.
