Have you ever clicked a picture of yourself and found out that the image looks great, but you’re not really liking the background? Or how about a complete change in the background? Maybe snap a picture in your backyard and replace the background with the snowy Alps to show off to your friends?! Well, that’s now possible with just a single click.
Web developers Benjamin Groessing and David Fankhauser have developed a tool which is now available online as remove.bg which performs exactly the task that its clever moniker suggests, remove backgrounds from images consisting of people in them.
While this was already effectively possible using photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop, it’s a much more complex process of selecting finer details and areas in the image to be able to crop it out from the background, something that remove.bg does using just a single click. The developer claims to have built the service using Python, Ruby and Deep Learning algorithms and offers a no-frills experience and an easy-to-use UI.
How To Easily Remove the Background From Your Picture
- Head over to remove.bg and you will be greeted with the homepage consisting of an option to upload the image of your choice or to enter the URL of an image.
- Once the image is uploaded, the same picture will be displayed right below with the background stripped off wherein only the person will be visible and the rest of the image would be transparent.
- You can then download the image and use any editing tool to place it over an existing image to change the background. Here are a few samples for you to take a look at.
The service is completely free as of now and the website itself provides an ad-free experience. The caveat, however, is that at least for now, only images with a person/people in them can be used to remove the background, so if you have a picture of an object or your pet, you may not be able to perform the background removal.
We ran a couple of test rounds by trying to remove the background from a few images and the results are pretty impressive, so head over to remove.bg to start editing your own pictures with custom backgrounds!
